Madras High Court Grants Dynamic Injunction Against Rogue Websites Restraining Illegal Broadcast of Series “Hunkkaar: The Roar”
In the matter of Applause Entertainment Private Limited vs. BSNL & Ors., CS (COMM DIV) No. 266 of 2026, the Learned Single Judge of Madras High Court passed an interim order dated 24 September 2026 for blocking of rogue websites restraining them from illegally broadcasting or facilitating access to pirated copies of the series “Hunkkaar: The Roar”, ahead of its scheduled release on 25 September 2026.
Plaintiff filed the commercial suit alleging that various intermediaries, internet service providers and cable operators may unlawfully transmit or stream the Series without a proper license. Along with the suit, Plaintiff filed an application for interim injunction.

The Court observed that the apprehension of the Plaintiff that the rogue websites are likely to infringe copyright in the Series, is genuine, and accordingly, granted an ad-interim injunction restraining the Respondents from infringing, copying, re-uploading and carrying out all other allied acts constituting violation of Plaintiff’s copyright till 29 October 2026. The matter is directed to be next listed on 29 October 2026.
