About The National Law University Tripura

The National Law University Tripura (NLUT) was established in 2022 by a Statute (Act No. 3 of 2022) of the State of Tripura. The foundation of the University was laid by Her Excellency Smt. Draupadi Murmu, Hon’ble President of India, reflects her commitment to excellence in legal education. The Chief Justice of the High Court of Tripura is the Chancellor of the University. The University offers a wide-ranging array of programs, including the five-year integrated B.A.LL.B. (Hons.), LL.M., and Ph.D. NLUT accepts students through the Common Law Admission Test (CLAT) for admission to its B.A.LL.B. (Hons.) LL. M. programmes.

About The Event

NLU Tripura is thrilled to announce the 2nd National Level Essay Writing Competition – Likhawat 2.0. This year’s theme is inspired by the powerful adage “Hamara Samvidhan, Hamara Samman,” (Our Constitution, Our Pride) to commemorate 75 years of India as a Republic and celebrate the adoption of the Indian Constitution. The competition is also part of the Department of Justice’s year-long, pan-India campaign aimed at honouring the spirit of constitutional values and democratic principles.

Eligibility

  • Eligibility and Registration for School Students– School Students of Class 11 & 12 (All Streams) from any Recognised Board
  • Eligibility and Registration for University/College Students-Diploma/UG/PG students of all Programs of any recognised college or University

Theme

  • The theme of Likhawat 2.0 is “Hamara Samvidhan Hamara Swabhiman” (Our Constitution, Our Pride).
  • Important: The registered participants must choose a topic for the competition which aligns with the theme only. If found inconsistent and misaligned with the theme, the judges have the discretion to reject during evaluation. The decision of the judges shall remain final and binding.
  • The participants are requested to adhere to the theme mentioned.

Submission Categories

Essay Writing Competition– Word limit for School Students is 1000-1500 words, and for Diploma/UG/PG students it will be 2000-2500 words.

Prizes

  • School level-
    • 1st Prize- 5K
    • 2nd Prize- 3K
  • University/ College level-
    • 1st Prize- 10K
    • 2nd Prize- 7K

All participants will be awarded a certificate of participation.

Formatting Guidelines

  • The language must be in English only, and submission shall be made in MS Word format).
  • Word limit for School Students is 1000-1500 words, and for Diploma/UG/PG students it will be 2000-2500 words.
  • Formatting guidelines for the main body: Times New Roman, font size 12, line spacing 1.5, double-spaced on A4 sheet, and justified alignment.
  • Footnotes must strictly follow ILI mode of citation format.
  • The essay must be original and unpublished. Any submission that is found to be plagiarised (i.e. more than 15% similarity) shall be disqualified from the competition.
  • All participants are mandatorily required to upload a plagiarism report (Turnitin/Drillbit) along with their essay. Submissions without a valid plagiarism report will not be considered for evaluation.

Selection Guidelines

The Essays will be evaluated by a Panel of Judges on the following criteria:

  • Topic relevance, originality, and clarity.
  • A compelling issue analysis supported by research, evidence, and/or personal connection.
  • Advocating tangible, specific, and creative solutions to promote awareness and address issues.
  • Suggesting ways in which Indian citizens can be part of the solution.

  • Registration is mandatory to participate in the Essay Writing Competition.

Registration and Submission Deadline (Important Dates)

The dates are applicable for both School and College/University Students.

  • Last date of Registration: June 5, 2025
  • Last date of Essay Submission: June 15, 2025

Note: After registration, one can submit the essay anytime on or before June 5, 2025.

The Competition Results will be announced and published tentatively in the month of June 2025, on NLU Tripura’s official website.

Registration Fees

  • Registration Fee for School Students is INR 100 only.
  • Registration Fee for College/University Students is INR 200 only.
