The role is part of the Unilever Legal Powerhouse in Bangalore, a team of around 60 professionals supporting legal operations, and is based alongside the Uni Ops Function, which enables Unilever’s business operations through technology and innovation.

About the Job

The Legal Associate will support Unilever’s Europe and Greater Asia markets by undertaking legal research, analysis, contract administration, and operational legal tasks. The role also involves contributing to legal process simplification initiatives and supporting the adoption of technology to improve legal service delivery.

Eligibility

• Professional qualification in Law.
• 3–5 years of hands-on experience in contract drafting, reviewing, and negotiating.
• Experience working within a large and complex business environment requiring data analysis and balanced risk assessment.
• Strong contract negotiation skills from both legal and procurement perspectives.
• Excellent communication skills.
• Ability to collaborate with colleagues across multiple countries and time zones.

Responsibilities

• Support legal research, analysis, and operational legal activities for Europe and Greater Asia markets.
• Maintain accurate and up-to-date legal records and files.
• Submit documents to relevant official entities.
• Assist in the management and administration of contracts.
• Support innovation and technology-driven improvements in legal service delivery.
• Collaborate with lawyers and legal professionals across multiple jurisdictions.

Contracting

• Negotiate contractual terms and conditions with third parties.
• Promote the use of Unilever’s standard contractual templates where appropriate.
• Review and negotiate third-party templates to align with Unilever’s interests.
• Ensure supplier contracts contain appropriate schedules to manage contractual risks associated with third-party suppliers.
• Coordinate with legal teams to ensure the use of updated clauses, templates, and schedules.

Governance and Compliance

• Understand and implement updates to standard contractual clauses.
• Identify and highlight deviations and associated risks.
• Ensure internal contract templates remain accurate and up to date.
• Identify opportunities to improve contract management processes and support implementation of improvements.

Stakeholder Management

• Support the development and management of relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
• Collaborate with teams across Legal, Procurement, Finance, Digital Marketing, Human Resources, Data Privacy, and other business functions.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience within a consumer goods or retail environment.
• Understanding of procurement processes and the legal aspects of supplier relationships.
