Nyaaya is a digital platform that provides citizens with simple, practical, and language-accessible legal information. Its purpose is to ensure that every person (especially underserved communities) understands their rights and duties and uses the law to improve their lives. Nyaaya works to make access to justice easier through policy, research, digital technology, and grassroots interventions.
Nyaaya is an initiative of the Vidhi Centre for Legal Policy. Vidhi is a leading policy think tank that actively contributes to reforms in Indian law and policy.
About the Fellowship – Karnataka Samvidhaan Fellowship 2026
The Karnataka Samvidhaan Fellowship 2026 is a one-year paid fellowship program launched by Nyaaya. The aim of the fellowship is to increase legal awareness at the grassroots level in Karnataka and to reduce inequalities in access to justice. Under this fellowship, selected fellows will work with local communities across different districts of Karnataka, helping people understand their legal rights, strengthen engagement with government institutions, and improve access to the justice system.
This fellowship is a unique opportunity for those working in the field of social change. It provides passionate and committed young people working in this sector the chance to create real impact.
This year, Nyaaya will be selecting 18 lawyers to work as Samvidhaan Fellows in Karnataka.
Expectations from the Samvidhaan Fellows
- Must be a highly skilled lawyer working at the grassroots level.
- Should have at least 3+ years of litigation experience.
- Must be proficient and effective in speaking and writing Kannada.
- Must have expertise in gender rights, child rights, or the rights of underserved communities.
- Should have an understanding of social security schemes and rights.
- Should know how to work on legal grievance redressal and understand related processes.
- Should have demonstrated interest and commitment to social justice through community engagement.
- Should be keen in creating legal awareness and literacy .
Work of the Samvidhaan Fellows
- Create contextual,legal awareness content in Kannada based on the needs of the communities they work with and disseminate it in collaboration with KSLSA, DD Chandana, Akashvani and other partner organisations.
- Conduct legal awareness sessions and capacity building training on areas identified by partner organisations to empower community members.
- Answer questions received from beneficiaries of grassroots organisations that Nyaaya collaborates with and those received on Nyaaya’s whatsapp helpline.
- Provide legal advice, take up pro-bono cases and contribute strategic guidance to advocacy issues identified by grassroots organisations.
Duration of Work
The fellowship duration will be 12 months (one year), with the possibility of extension based on the fellow’s work.
Nature of Work
- The fellowship focuses especially on judicial issues concerning women and children in Karnataka.
- Since the primary aim is grassroots-level work with common people, fellows must be based in Karnataka.
- Fellows will receive a financial support of ₹30,000 per month, along with reimbursement of fellowship-related expenses such as printing expenses, travel costs, etc.
- Selected lawyers will be required to provide pro bono representation in cases referred by Nyaaya’s partner institutions.
- Litigation costs incurred in such cases will be reimbursed by Nyaaya.
Stipend
Each fellow will receive a monthly stipend of ₹30,000.
Work Location
The fellowship work will be based in different districts of Karnataka.
