About the Journal

The Journal of Intellectual Property Laws is a peer-reviewed, ISSN serial journal [ISSN: 2455-0361] published by the Centre for Intellectual Property Rights, Institute of Law, Nirma University, Ahmedabad, Gujarat.The Centre for Intellectual Property Rights endeavours to become the beacon in the field of Intellectual Property Rights by encouraging the synthesis of knowledge and best practices, cutting across academia and the research fraternity.

The Sub-themes include the following:

• Use of AI and emerging issues under IP 
• IP & Music
• Antitrust and IP Law
• Innovation and Intellectual Property Rights
• Protection of Traditional Knowledge
• IP & Taxation
• Overlapping Intellectual Property Rights
• Traditional Cultural Expression

The sub-themes are suggestive in nature and not exhaustive. The authors can amend or choose to write on any other topic of their interest that falls under the main theme of the Journal issue.

Who can submit

Law students pursuing the five-year LL.B course as well as the three-year course, Students pursuing LL.M. or PhD, Academicians, and Educators can contribute to the Journal.

Submission categories

JIPL welcomes original and previously unpublished works in the following categories for publication in its VIII & IX volume.

• Articles: Submissions should provide a comprehensive coverage of the available literature on the concerned topic and a novel perspective on the related issue, with suggestions. (Word limit- 3000-6000 including footnotes)
• Essay: The Essay should cover a recent development or should be issue-specific. An essay functions as a more condensed and succinct Article. (Word limit- 2000-3000 including footnotes)
• Case notes/Case comments: Case comments should entail a critical analysis of recent case laws and policy developments. (Word limit- 2000-2500 words including footnotes)
• Book reviews: We also welcome reviews of books that have made a significant contribution to legal or academic scholarship in the field of Intellectual Property Rights. Successful submissions to this category will engage substantively with the ideas and themes explored in the book instead of merely providing a summary of its main arguments. (Word limit- 2000-2500 words including footnotes)

Submission Guidelines

• All the submissions shall be accompanied by an abstract of 350-500 words. The word limit for the abstract is exclusive of the word limit for the main paper submission.
• Entries can be co-authored; however, a maximum of two authors per entry is allowed. Only original work is invited, and any kind of plagiarism will lead to the disqualification of the paper.
• Submissions must follow the OSCOLA citation style.
• AI-generated content is strictly prohibited. The similarity index is as per UGC guidelines.
• The author’s identity or affiliations must not be mentioned anywhere in the manuscript. A separate file containing name of the author, designation, institutional affiliation and title of the submission shall be submitted along with the manuscript.
• All the submissions must be in .doc/.docx format
• The title of the file of the manuscript shall be the title of the submission.
• The subject of the email should be ‘Submission for Journal of Intellectual Property Laws’.
• The submissions must be original and shall not be under consideration in any other journal.
• The decisions of the editors shall be final and binding.
• All the communications must be made to the provided email id.

The body of the manuscript must be according to the following specifications:

• Times New Roman font
  • Font size 12
  • Line spacing 1.5
• Footnotes must be in Times New Roman, font size 10 with single line spacing.

Publication Policy

• The submissions must be original and should not be under consideration in any other journal or for any publication. Articles with plagiarism and copyright issues are liable to be rejected immediately. Journal of Intellectual Property Law is not to be subject to any liability which may arise in this regard.
• Submission of work made to the Journal of Intellectual Property Laws is indicative of the fact that the authors grant exclusive permission to JIPL to publish and reproduce their work in all streams of media. Such right is subject to the doctrine of fair use as follows under the law relating to Intellectual Property Rights and subject to the entitlements of the author.
• The editors reserve the right to delete or edit any article or part thereof whose content is found to be offensive, defamatory, outrightly unethical, or if it is suggestive of discrimination in any form, racism, sexual, gender, religious, illegal, or terror activities, and/or any other.
• The article is subject to rejection if its content is likely to offend or provoke any personal, religious, or political sentiments of the reader.
• There is no publication fee. All submissions will be scrutinised through peer review, and the authors of selected papers will be notified of the results.
