About the Job
Chandhiok & Mahajan is hiring for the position of Senior Associate / Managing Associate in its Digital Regulations, Emerging Technologies, Privacy & Cybersecurity Practice. The position is based in Mumbai or Delhi and is intended for a mid-senior level lawyer with 5–7 years of PQE.
The role requires strong legal and commercial judgment, independent execution capabilities, and experience in managing complex client workstreams.
Eligibility
- 5–7 years of PQE.
- Substantial law-firm experience in data privacy, technology, TMT, IT contracts, or a related advisory practice.
- Hands-on experience advising clients on data protection, including DPDP assessments and implementation.
- Ability to interpret legislation, regulations, and regulatory guidance, including evolving and grey areas of law.
- Ability to independently manage client workstreams, timelines, and stakeholders.
- Strong drafting, contract review, and negotiation skills.
- Ability to identify legal and commercial risks and provide practical, commercially oriented advice.
- Candidates with less than 5 years of PQE or without law-firm experience will not be considered.
Responsibilities
- Data Privacy & DPDP: Lead and support DPDP Act and Rules assessments, gap assessments, and implementation, including privacy governance, policies, notices, data processing arrangements, and vendor assessments.
- Technology & Commercial Advisory: Review, draft, and negotiate technology, SaaS, IT, outsourcing, vendor, licensing, and data protection agreements, with an understanding of the underlying technology and business model.
- AI & Emerging Technology: Advise on AI governance, regulatory requirements, AI products and use cases, AI-related contracting, and data protection implications.
- Legal Analysis & Quality: Conduct research and advise on complex and evolving legal issues, identify grey areas and competing interpretations, develop defensible positions, and review junior-level work.
- Project & Team Management: Manage multiple client workstreams and timelines, supervise the team, coordinate with clients and internal stakeholders, and ensure effective execution of matters.
