Name, college, year of study of the student intern

I am Dipita Pal, a 1st year LLM student at Amity University Noida.

Name of the Organization

Alipore Police Court, Kolkata, West Bengal

Duration of the Internship

Seven Month from 01.11.2021 to 31.05.2022

How did you apply?

I ask my college seniors who were practicing in the courts as advocates, to provide me with contacts of Senior Advocates. So that I could contact them for internships. For that, I contacted a few seniors and got this internship as his junior intern.

Work profile/ main tasks

Case Reading

Initially, I was assigned to read the case files of the cases that were fixed in the present week. Then I was asked to give suggestions on what should the next step be for the coming date. There was discussion about the cases, like what steps can be taken and why they should be taken.

Learning Court Procedures

In the beginning, I was taught how to collect the next dates of the concerned cases & what was assigned for that next date. Then was taught how to write notices, haziras & petitions. For example, Absent Petition, Petition regarding Section 200 Cr.P.C., etc. Witnessed filing of suits like under Section 144 Cr.P.C., etc. Saw other court proceedings which helped to get an idea about how the proceedings take place.
Then learned about applying & collecting certified deed copies, verification of deeds before paying stamp duty, learned to do Query details of the property, accompanied senior for the commission of registration of deeds, and collecting the original registered deed after fulfillment of the commission of registration.

Interaction with clients

Gained some knowledge about how to interact with clients. Noting down details of the incident said by the client. As client dealing is one of the vital and important parts of litigation, it helped me to get a road map about how to deal with clients, and important details to be taken into account which are given by the client.

Interaction with other Senior Advocates

I also enjoyed interacting with other advocates during my internship I managed to meet several advocates who seemed friendly. I asked them for any advice they could give me. I was given a lot but all in all the point I picked out was to work hard prepare well and be honest.

Work Environment

The work environment was pretty good as my senior as well as the other senior advocates seemed very frank to ask them about anything related to proceedings of a court or how to write any petition or complaint. My senior helped me with all the required information needed for the internship.

Good Things

The best part of this internship was that I was taken to different courts of Kolkata & Registrar offices for registration of deeds.

Bad Things

There were no such bad things in this internship.

Stipend (if any)

Some amount as a stipend was provided to me for travel & food expense.
