About the Magazine Committee

Established in the year 2019, the Magazine Committee aims to chronicle and showcase the diverse activities and achievements within the institution as well as the various competitions organized by the Committee. The Committee publishes its bi-annual magazine ‘The Muses’, written and edited by the students of the Department of Law, University of Calcutta, which chronicles all activities under the aegis of the institution and paints a picture of the yearly endeavours of this institute and its students.

This publication provides a platform for the students to exhibit their creative, scientific, literary, and academic prowess. In this edition, the committee is accepting submissions from all. It also runs an online blog “The Musing” where articles, essays, poems, and interviews are published.

About the Competition

“Gopal Bhar Memorial” is the 1st flagship National Level meme-making competition organized by the Magazine Committee. There is no specified theme. The member is required to submit one submission only.

The duration of the competition is from 7th March 2024 to 25th March 2024. The result will be declared on 30th March 2024.

Gopal Bhar is one of the most famous and legendary characters in Bengali comedy. Every Bengali kid grows up listening to the stories of Gopal Bhar and his wittiness.

Gopal Bhar or Gopal Bhand (Bengali: গোপাল ভাঁড় [ˈɡopal bʱãˑɽ]) was a court jester in medieval Bengal. He was in the court of Raja Krishnachandra (1710–1783), the then-king of Nadia in the 18th century.

Gopal used to give joy to others through laughter and ridicule. The king considered Gopal as a Navaratna of his court. His statue can still be seen in the palace of Krishnachandra and Ghurni, Krishnagar town. Gopal is believed to have possessed a keen intelligence.

Rules

• Sexually explicit or politically coloured content is not allowed.
• Your meme must be your original concept.
• Judging criteria will include quality, artistic value, presentation, and humour.
• At any given point of time or in case of any dispute the decision of the judge is final.
• The submission must not contain any identifying details such as name or signature in the meme.

Prizes

• E-Certificate of merits would be issued for the winners, 1st runners-up, and 2nd runners-up.
• An e-Certificate of participation will be given to all the participants.

Submission Guidelines

• The submission must be made by the participants by posting their respective memes on their Instagram story and also by DM on its official Instagram handle. ( @culaw_magcom )
• The participants must mention and tag ( @culaw_magcom )
• Non-adherence to the guidelines shall lead to disqualification.
• Show your creativity and get a chance to publish your meme in its Magazine.
• Not just that, top submissions will be featured on the Instagram feed of the Magazine Committee.
