The Government of Tamil Nadu, by virtue of Act No. 43 of 1997, established The Tamil Nadu Dr. Ambedkar Law University (TNDALU) with the objective of advancing and disseminating knowledge in the field of legal education. The University was inaugurated on 20th September 1997 by His Excellency Shri K.R. Narayanan, the then President of India, and was named in honour of Bharat Ratna Dr. B.R. Ambedkar, the Architect of the Indian Constitution.

Recognized by the Bar Council of India and the University Grants Commission under Sections 2(f) and 12(B) of the UGC Act, the University stands as the first sui generis affiliating Law University in India and South Asia. About the Workshop

The Crime Scene Investigation (CSI) Workshop is a comprehensive, hands-on learning programme designed to provide participants with a practical understanding of the fundamental principles and procedures involved in forensic crime scene investigation. Conducted prior to the competition, the workshop aims to equip participants with the essential knowledge and investigative skills

The workshop will be led by a team of experienced forensic experts and professionals, who will provide in-depth guidance in crime scene investigation. Participants will gain insights into the do’s and don’ts of handling a crime scene. This interactive session is designed to bridge the gap between theoretical knowledge and practical application, enabling participants to develop a deeper appreciation of the role of forensic science in criminal investigations.

The workshop is open to participants from all academic disciplines, with no stream-specific eligibility requirements. Individuals who wish to attend only the workshop, without participating in the CSI Competition, are welcome to register separately by paying the prescribed workshop registration fee.

About Crime Scene Investigation (CSI)

Crime Scene Investigation (CSI) is a simulation-based academic competition designed to replicate the real-life process of criminal investigation. It provides participants with an opportunity to step into the role of investigators and apply legal, logical, and forensic reasoning to a structured crime scenario.

The competition requires teams to carefully examine a simulated crime scene, observe and document physical evidence, analyse material clues, and reconstruct the sequence of events. Participants must employ deductive and inductive reasoning, apply principles of Criminal Law and Evidence, and develop a coherent hypothesis identifying the probable perpetrator.

CSI is inherently interdisciplinary in nature. It integrates:

• Criminal Law
• Law of Evidence
• Forensic Science principles
• Logical and analytical reasoning
• Observational and documentation skills

Participants are assessed not merely on identifying a suspect, but on the clarity of their reasoning, evidentiary correlation, structured reporting, and the strength of their conclusions.

By bridging the gap between theoretical knowledge and practical application, CSI promotes experiential learning and enhances critical thinking, teamwork, and professional competence. The competition aims to cultivate precision, objectivity, and analytical depth — qualities indispensable to legal practitioners, investigators, and future members of the justice system.

Eligibility

• This event comprises of competition and workshop.
• The competition is open to full-time students and full-time research scholars belonging to streams of Law, Criminology, Social work, Human rights, and Police administration and who are below the age of 30 years.
• Entry to the workshop is included for all participants of the competition. Academicians regardless of field of study can register for the workshop.
• Forensic science students are not allowed for the competition.
• Each team will comprise of two members only.
• There is no restriction to the number of teams that may participate from the same institution (Except SOEL).
• Individuals who attend only the workshop may do so by registering themselves individually.

Team Composition

• Each team shall consist of TWO members
• Teams must comprise members from the same institution.
• Cross-institutional teams are not permitted.
• Any change in team composition after registration shall not be permitted except with prior approval of the Organising Committee.
• Multiple teams from the same institution are permitted.

Note

• A maximum of 70 teams shall be registered on a First-Come, First-Served (FCFS) basis.
• Out of 70 teams,20 teams are reserved for the home institution.
• Registration will close once the maximum limit of 70 teams is reached.

Workshop Registration

• Participation in the Workshop is open to all students, irrespective of their academic discipline or stream. There are no stream-specific eligibility restrictions for workshop participants.
• who wish to attend only the Workshop, without participating in the competition, are welcome to register separately.
• The Registration Fee for Workshop only is ₹1,500 (inclusive of 18% GST).
• All registrations are subject to the terms and conditions prescribed by the organising committee.
• All the Participants should register for the event individually and submit the Google Form. Group Registration should be avoided

Registration Procedure

Participants are required to complete their Registration on or before 2^nd August 2026. NOW EXTENDED TILL 12^th AUGUST

Upon successful registration and verification, the registered teams will receive a confirmation email containing from the organising committee containing

• The assigned Team Code (for participants of the Competition)
• The assigned Participant code (for participants taking part in workshop alone)
• All further instructions regarding the competition and the workshop

The participants requested to retain the confirmation email for future references.  

Participants who have registered for the workshop alone shall attend the event only on the first day. They shall not be permitted to attend the competition. Attending the valedictory is compulsory for all participants of workshop and competition.

Registration Fee

• Registration Fee for the Competition is Rs. 3,000/- (inclusive of 18% GST) (Rupees Three Thousand Only) per team, exclusive of accommodation.
• The Registration Fee for SOEL students  Rs. 2,500/- (inclusive of 18% GST) (Rupees Two Thousand five Hundred Only) per team,
• The Registration Fee for those participants to attend workshop alone is Rs. 1500/- (inclusive of 18% GST) (Rupees Thousand Five Hundred Only)

Teams must complete the final registration process, including payment of the registration fee, within the stipulated deadline to confirm their participation.

• Date of competition; 28^th and 29^th August 2026

• Winner – Cash Prize of ₹ 12,000 + Trophy + Certificate of Merit
• Runner-Up – Cash Prize of ₹7,000 + Trophy + Certificate of Merit
• 2^nd Runner-Up – Cash Prize of ₹5000 + Trophy + Certificate of Merit
• Best Report- Cash Prize of ₹4000 Trophy + Certificate of Merit
• Best Investigator- Cash Prize of ₹4000 Trophy + Certificate of Merit

All participants shall be awarded Certificates of Participation in recognition of their involvement in the competition.
