Consultant for Legal &Treaties at Division of the Ministry of External Affairs [Salary Rs 10 LPA]: Apply by July 31

The Ministry of External Affairs is inviting applications for the contractual position of Consultant (Lawfare Issues) in its Legal & Treaties-I Division, New Delhi.
About the Job
The Ministry of External Affairs is recruiting one Consultant (Lawfare Issues) on a contractual basis. The selected candidate will provide legal and policy support on matters involving lawfare, international disputes, universal jurisdiction, and related developments under international law.

Eligibility
Candidates must:
- Be an Indian national.
- Hold a Postgraduate degree (LL.M.) in International Law from a recognised institution in India or abroad.
- Candidates with specialisation in International Humanitarian Law or Criminal Law will be preferred.
- Have a minimum of 2 years of work experience.
- Be a registered law practitioner in India.
- Be 25–35 years of age as on the last date of submission of applications.
Preferred Qualification
Work experience with the Government of India will be preferred.
Responsibilities
The selected candidate will be responsible for:
- Providing legal inputs on lawfare issues, including universal jurisdiction principles and discussions before the International Law Commission.
- Collecting and analysing foreign domestic laws permitting universal jurisdiction.
- Mapping and monitoring lawfare cases instituted by foreign governments across different jurisdictions.
- Supporting the Division in handling international disputes involving universal jurisdiction.
- Preparing legal briefs and background notes on lawfare issues.
- Analysing the legal implications of domestic legislation and international developments relating to lawfare.
- Coordinating with the Ministry of External Affairs, the Ministry of Home Affairs, and other relevant agencies to ensure coherence in India’s position on lawfare.
- Undertaking other legal assignments, including drafting notes, preparing talking points, and contributing to capacity-building initiatives.
Remuneration
- Remuneration will be based on the selected candidate’s experience and profile, subject to a maximum of ₹10,00,000 per annum, with applicable tax deductions.
- The engagement will be purely contractual and will not confer the benefits available to regular government employees.
Duration
The consultancy will be for one year, with the possibility of extension based on performance, mutual willingness, and the Ministry’s requirements.

Ministry of External Affairs, New Delhi (South Block/Jawaharlal Nehru Bhawan/Sushma Swaraj Bhawan/Patiala House/ISIL Building/CCS Building).
