About The Conference
The DPIIT-IPR Chair, in collaboration with the Centre for Applied Research in Public Health Law, Rights and Policy (CPHL) and the Centre for Research in Intellectual Property (CRIP) at Maharashtra National Law University Mumbai, is organizing a Conference and Paper Presentation on the theme “Cure vs. Commerce: Public Health and Pharmaceutical Patents.” The event will be held on 30th March 2026 at the MNLU Mumbai campus.
The conference will bring together academicians, practitioners, policymakers, and students to engage in discussions on the evolving landscape of pharmaceutical patents and public health. It aims to foster informed dialogue on how legal frameworks can address competing interests of innovation and accessibility.
The intersection of intellectual property law and public health continues to generate complex legal and policy debates, particularly in the context of pharmaceutical patents. While patent protection incentivises innovation and investment in drug development, it also raises concerns regarding accessibility, affordability, and equity in healthcare.
Recent global developments have underscored the urgency of addressing these tensions, especially in ensuring access to life-saving medicines without undermining innovation. The need to reconcile proprietary rights with public interest remains central to contemporary legal discourse.
