The Centre for Advanced Research on Corporate and Insolvency Laws (CARCIL), Chanakya National Law University (CNLU), Patna, is pleased to invite applications for the CNLU-CARCIL National Deal Negotiation Competition on FinTech Laws, 2026, being organised as a part of the CNLU-CARCIL National Corporate Fest (CNCF’26).

About the Competition

The CNLU-CARCIL National Deal Negotiation Competition on FinTech Laws is a practice-oriented initiative aimed at equipping participants with essential negotiation and transactional skills within the rapidly evolving fintech landscape. 

The Competition is designed to simulate real-world commercial negotiations at the intersection of finance, technology, and law, enabling participants to engage with contemporary transactional challenges.

The Competition is designed to assess negotiation skills, commercial awareness, legal reasoning, and adaptability in dynamic transactional settings. Prizes will be awarded, along with other recognitions.

Team Structure

Each team shall comprise two members, who shall assume distinct, fixed roles mirroring key participants in an actual deal negotiation proceeding, one member as Client and the other as Counsel. Participants must strictly adhere to the responsibilities and limitations of their assigned role throughout all rounds.

Structure of the Competition

The Competition will be conducted in a three-stage format:

  • Stage I: Negotiation Plan Submission: Teams are required to submit a negotiation strategy or preliminary deal brief within the prescribed timeline, along with the initial registration fee.
  • Stage II (Virtual): Preliminary Negotiation Round: Based on evaluation of Stage I submissions, the top 24 teams will qualify for this stage, consisting of virtual negotiation rounds.
  • Stage III (On-Campus): Quarter-Final and Final Round: The top 8 teams will advance to this stage, held on campus, where participants will engage in live negotiation rounds involving complex, real-world inspired fintech transactions. The offline rounds are scheduled for 5th September 2026.

Eligibility

  • Students pursuing a full-time 3-year or 5-year LL.B. from a university recognised by the Bar Council of India or the relevant statutory authority.
  • Students enrolled in LL.M. programmes from recognised universities duly accredited by the UGC.
  • Undergraduate or Postgraduate students in Finance, Management, Economics, or allied disciplines from recognised universities.

  • Release of Problem Statement & Commencement of Final Registration: 05.07.2026
  • Last Date for Clarifications: 14.07.2026
  • Last Date for Final Registration & Submission of Negotiation Plan: 19.07.2026
  • Intimation to Top 24 Selected Teams: 30.07.2026
  • Preliminary Negotiation Rounds (Virtual): 16.08.2026
  • Intimation to Top 8 Selected Teams and Release of Ranklist: 18.08.2026
  • CNLU–CARCIL National Deal Negotiation Competition, 2026 (On-Campus Rounds): 05.09.2026

Registration Details

Interested teams shall register for the Competition through the provisional registration form before the registration deadline.

Registration Fee

  • At the time of Final Registration and submission of the Negotiation Plan: Rs. 2,000 per team.
  • After qualifying into the Preliminary Negotiation Round (Top 24): Rs. 3,000 per team.

Submission Procedure

Interested teams are required to register through the Provisional Registration Form and thereafter comply with the timelines and requirements set out in the official Rulebook. Teams are advised to refer to the Rulebook for the detailed rules of the Competition, including the negotiation plan format, code of conduct, and evaluation criteria.
