About the Course
As humanity accelerates its exploration and utilization of outer space, the legal and regulatory frameworks governing these activities face unprecedented challenges. The intersection of international obligations, national interests, commercial innovation, and emerging technologies necessitates a nuanced understanding of space law that is both globally grounded and nationally responsive.
This three-day certificate course on Advanced Space Law is designed to provide participants with a comprehensive overview of current and emerging legal issues in outer space activities. It brings together experts, practitioners, policymakers, and scholars to engage with the evolving legal landscape and critically examine how international space law is being interpreted, applied, and, at times, challenged by national policies and commercial practices.

Course Coordinator & the Instructors
Dr. Rosmy Joan, Associate Professor of Law, NALSAR
Dr. Rosmy Joan specializes in International Economic Law and currently serves as an Associate Professor of Law and Director of the Centre for International Trade and Business Law at NALSAR University of Law, Hyderabad.
Prof. (Dr.) Kai-Uwe Schrogl
Prof. Kai-Uwe Schrogl is the President of the International Institute of Space Law (IISL) and serves as Special Advisor for Political Affairs at the European Space Agency (ESA). He has extensive experience in space policy, including positions at ESA, German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy, and the European Space Policy Institute. Prof. Schrogl has published over 20 books and 140 articles on space policy and law, and is a member of multiple international organizations in space law.
Dr. Ranjana Kaul, Partner, Dua Associates
Dr. Ranjana Kaul specializes in international space law, satellite telecommunications, and air law. She is Vice President of the International Institute of Space Law, member of the Indian Space Association, and was listed in the Forbes India Legal Powerlist 2022.
Wing Commander (Dr.) U.C. Jha
Dr. U.C. Jha is Secretary General of the Indian Society of International Law and a distinguished air veteran. He has extensive expertise in international humanitarian law, military law, and has presented papers to the UN, Indian Parliament, and multiple universities.
Prof. Sandeepa Bhat B.
Prof. Sandeepa Bhat is Professor of Law and Director of the Centre for Aviation and Space Laws at NUJS, Kolkata. He has published books and articles on space, aviation, and medical law, and led multiple research projects sponsored by the World Bank, ISRO, and other institutions.
Dr. Rodrigo Polanco Lazo
Dr. Rodrigo Polanco Lazo is Senior Researcher at the World Trade Institute, University of Bern, and Legal Advisor at the Swiss Institute of Comparative Law. He specializes in trade law, investment law, and air & space law.
Prof. Aneesh V. Pillai
Prof. Aneesh Pillai is Associate Professor at CUSAT and Director of Space Law Programmes. He has authored books on state responsibility, AI, surrogacy, NDPS Act, and edited works on competition law and cyber law.
Dr. Divya Tyagi
Dr. Divya Tyagi is Head of V.S. Mani Centre for Air and Space Law at GNLU. He teaches Corporate Law, Securities Law, Investment Law, Air & Space Law and has nearly 19 years of teaching experience.
Dr. Gunes Unuvar
Dr. Gunes Unuvar is a Postdoctoral Researcher at the Luxembourg Centre for European Law. His research focuses on space law, international economic law, and investor-state dispute settlement reform.
Ms. Roser Almenar
Ms. Roser Almenar is a PhD candidate at the University of Valencia, researching AI and Space Law. She is involved with SGAC, IISL, and European space governance initiatives.
Ms. Shrawani Shagun
Ms. Shrawani Shagun is a research scholar in space law focusing on environmental sustainability and climate action. She serves as National Point of Contact for India at SGAC.
Ms. Sai Susmitha Guddanti
Ms. Sai Susmitha Guddanti is a graduate research assistant at University of North Dakota focusing on space propulsion, thermal sciences, and nuclear propulsion control. She is Vice President of the United Global Women’s Alliance at UND.
