The National University of Study and Research in Law, Ranchi, established by a legislative act by the State of Jharkhand (Act No. 4 of 2010) as the 14th National Law University of India, is devoted to developing a holistic perspective of legal education in all its ramifications.

About the Centre for Research in Human Rights and Subaltern Studies (CHRSS)

The Centre for Research in Human Rights and Subaltern Studies (CHRSS) is a major centre at the University and it was created with an objective of protection of human rights. The Centre is committed to achieving the goals of Social Justice that are enshrined in our Preamble.

About the NUSRL Journal of Human Rights

The Centre for Research in Human Rights and Subaltern Studies has successfully published 2 volumes of the NUSRL Journal of Human Rights. The Journal explores global human rights issues through scholarly articles addressing legal, political, and social dimensions. In its previous volumes, it has featured contributions from academicians, practitioners of the legal field, and policymakers. The journal aims to foster debate and propose solutions to pressing human rights challenges.

Call for Papers

The journal invites academic contributions for the 3rd volume of the journal from academicians, practitioners of the legal profession, researchers, post-graduates, and under-graduate law students.

Submission Categories

  • Research Paper: – Comprehensive study ranging from 5000-8000 words offering in-depth analysis on the various spectrums of human rights. Co-authorship of up to 2 authors is permitted.
  • Articles: – Focused discussions on emerging trends, challenges, or perspectives ranging from a word count of 3000- 4000 words. Co-authorship is not permitted.
  • Case Law Analysis: Critical examinations of specific legal cases ranging from a word count of 2000- 3000 words. Co-authorship is not permitted.

Submission Guidelines

  • All submissions must include an abstract that does not exceed 250 words and includes keywords.
  • The authors shall submit their manuscripts through this Google form only. Submissions made through any other mode shall not be accepted.
  • Language: – The submissions shall only be accepted in English.

Formatting Guidelines

  • The body of the submissions must be in accordance with the following specifications:
  • Font – Times New Roman
  • Font Size – 12
  • Line and Paragraph Spacing – 1.5
  • Referencing Style: – Bluebook, 21st edition
  • The submissions shall be in the .doc or .docx. PDFs of submissions shall not be accepted.
  • The author(s) shall submit the manuscripts along with a certificate of originality. No plagiarism of any kind will be accepted, and if plagiarism is found, the paper will be subject to cancellation at the discretion of the editorial board.

  • Subaltern and Vulnerable Groups and the Fight for Human Rights
  • Human Rights of Indigenous Groups
  • Migration and Human Rights
  • Criminal Justice Administration and Undermined Human Rights
  • International Human Rights Laws and Domestic Relevance
  • COVID-19 and violations of Human Rights
  • Women and human rights
  • Human trafficking and Human rights
  • Any other Human Rights issue of contemporary relevance

Authors are free to write on any other subject provided it remains within the ambit of human rights and should contribute to the contemporary discourse regarding the same.

Copyright Form

A copyright transfer must be given to the university by filling a form which will be provided by CHRSS, NUSRL upon the submission of the manuscript. The copyright transfer should be signed, scanned, and mailed to the editor of CHRSS, NUSRL.
