About the Job

OpenAI is seeking an Associate General Counsel, India, to support the organisation in navigating the evolving legislative and regulatory landscape relating to artificial intelligence in India. The role involves advising on AI-related legal and policy issues, supporting regulatory engagement, and contributing to the development of governance frameworks for AI.

The position reports to the Head of Legal, APAC.

Eligibility

• At least 12 years of legal and/or policy experience.
• Strong leadership skills and the ability to influence stakeholders.
• Experience gained in a combination of in-house legal teams, government or institutional roles, and/or law firms.
• Strong background in technology laws.
• Experience or demonstrated interest in AI laws and regulations.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to simplify complex legal and policy issues.
• Experience analysing complex legislation.
• Experience engaging with regulators and/or policymakers.

Responsibilities

• Analyse laws and regulations in India relating to artificial intelligence and assess their impact on OpenAI and the broader AI ecosystem.
• Develop policy positions on frontier legislation, pending legislation, and international standards.
• Partner with the Global Affairs team on regulatory strategy and engagement.
• Manage regulatory compliance matters in India.
• Collaborate with Product Legal teams to support the availability, growth, and responsible deployment of OpenAI’s products and services in India.
• Contribute to the organisation’s AI governance initiatives as regulatory frameworks evolve.
• Monitor legislative and regulatory developments relating to AI across the APAC region and keep the legal team informed.

Delhi or Mumbai, India.
