Gujarat National Law University, Gandhinagar established GCRCJS in 2019, recognising that a comprehensive understanding of the technicalities, complexities, and patterns of criminal law is indispensable for realizing the objectives of law. It is a Centre dedicated towards carrying out research in the niche area of Criminal Law. The Centre provides a platform for a holistic research environment and aims to further knowledge and academic discussions about the multifaceted dimensions of criminal science.

About the Competition

GCRCJS is pleased to organise the 4th edition of its Legislative Drafting Competition. The competition aims to provide participants with an opportunity to learn the nuances of legislative drafting and refine their skills in the area. It allows participants to explore the process of drafting, from identifying gaps in existing law to balancing the ideal and the pragmatic, while engaging with pressing contemporary legal issues.

Competition Theme

The theme for this year is:

“The Whistleblower and Witness Protection Act, 2025”

Whistleblowers and witnesses form the backbone of transparency and justice in India but face harassment, intimidation, professional retaliation, and even threats to life. The competition invites participants to draft a comprehensive legislation that addresses these challenges and ensures robust mechanisms for protection, accountability, and democratic integrity.

Eligibility

The competition is open to all students pursuing undergraduate or postgraduate studies from recognised law colleges/universities, with participation allowed individually or in a team of up to two members.

Prizes

  • Winner: ₹9,000
  • 1st Runner-Up: ₹7,000
  • 2nd Runner-Up: ₹5,000

All participants will receive a Certificate of Participation.

Top ten drafts will be awarded a Certificate of Merit.

Submission Deadline

30th November, 2025 (extended from 24th November)

Note: No submission from the participants will be entertained after the due date.

Submission Guidelines

No registration fee.

Mode

Online.

Submissions must be made in both .doc/.docx and .pdf formats.

File name format

  • Maximum page limit: 25 pages (excluding cover page).
  • Formatting: Times New Roman, font size 12, 1.5 spacing, justified text, 1-inch margins, no paragraph spacing. Footnotes in font size 10, and in Font Style Times New Roman, with single-line spacing.
  • The draft must follow the legislative format as given in the brochure (Long Title, Preamble, Enacting Clause, Definitions, Operative Sections, etc.).
  • Plagiarism above 15% is not permitted (1 mark deducted per 1% above; severe plagiarism may result in disqualification).
  • The use of AI should not exceed 20% of the submission.
  • The submission must be made through the following Google Form link.
