Its affiliation with Uttarakhand Technical University ensures that the curriculum remains relevant, while our distinguished faculty—comprising both experienced legal practitioners and scholarly experts—guides students through the complex landscape of law.

About the Opportunity

The National Moot Court Competition 2025 represents a unique opportunity for law students across India to immerse themselves in an enriching, competitive environment. This event is designed not only as a contest but also as a comprehensive learning experience where participants can polish their legal research, oral advocacy, and critical thinking skills.

Theme: Balancing Innovation and Privacy

This year’s moot proposition explores one of the most critical issues in our increasingly digital world: the balance between technological innovation and the protection of personal privacy. The case revolves around “Ciao,” a pioneering instant messaging application established in 2009 by Liao Tzu and Sam Montas. Known for its user-friendly interface and robust security measures, Ciao revolutionized digital communication, gaining global recognition and eventually being acquired by Friendbook in 2014 for an impressive $19 billion.

Following this acquisition, Ciao underwent significant changes, particularly in its privacy policies. In 2016, the company introduced modifications that allowed the sharing of user data with Friendbook and third-party businesses. This shift has sparked intense debate: Does such a policy compromise the fundamental right to privacy? Are users adequately informed and protected under these new terms? And importantly, should the government step in to regulate corporate data practices in the absence of a comprehensive digital privacy framework?

Participants are encouraged to explore these questions and more. The proposition challenges you to critically evaluate the responsibilities of tech companies, the rights of users, and the role of legislative oversight in the digital age. This is an opportunity to engage in a nuanced debate on a subject that is both timely and transformative for the future of legal practice.

Eligibility

The National Moot Court Competition 2025 is open to all law students who are enrolled in a bona fide undergraduate law course (either a three-year or five-year program) at any recognized college or university in India. Each institution may send up to three teams to compete, ensuring a diverse representation of talent and viewpoints from across the nation.

Each team must consist of a minimum of three members. In teams where there are only three members, two will serve as Orators—responsible for delivering persuasive arguments and rebuttals—while the third will act as the Researcher, tasked with supporting the team with comprehensive research as well as scoring good marks in the Researcher test. Teams must maintain anonymity during the written rounds to ensure a focus on the strength of their arguments. Only during the oral rounds may the speakers disclose their identities to the bench.

This structure is designed to foster teamwork, critical analysis, and a clear division of responsibilities, enabling every participant to contribute effectively to the overall success of the team.

Registration Fee

To participate in this prestigious event, a registration fee of Rs. 5,000 is required. We have structured the fee to not only cover your entry into the competition but also to provide additional benefits that enhance your overall experience. The fee includes:

A one-month subscription to SCC (Student Case Collection), granting access to an extensive repository of legal research resources.

Accommodation arrangements for the duration of the competition, ensuring that you can focus entirely on preparing your case without logistical concerns.

We have designed this fee to be comprehensive, ensuring that your participation is as seamless and enriching as possible.
