The Dr. B.R. Ambedkar National Law University, Sonepat, (DBRANLU) established by the Government of Haryana stands as a testament to the legacy of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar, an eminent reformer and the principal architect of India’s legal framework and Constitution.

Since commencing its first B.A.LL.B.(Hons.) batch in 2019, DBRANLU has expanded its offerings to include LL.M. and Ph.D. courses. In its brief journey, the university has established 7 Research Centres, initiated the prestigious DBRANLU Law Review Journal, and forged valuable collaborations through MoUs with esteemed organizations, furthering academic, research, and industry linkages.

About the Event

At the Centre for Conflict Management and Dispute Resolution of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar National Law University, we firmly believe in promoting innovation and brainstorming ideas related to mediation as a source for dispute resolution. It considers ideas as the driving force for change. With the National Essay Writing Competition 2024, it aims to inspire participants to think outside the box and delve into the intricacies, implications, and challenges within the realm of dispute resolution and conflict management.

Eligibility

To ensure wider reach and opportunity, the Competition will be open to all – including students (of all streams), academics, professionals, government officials, members of consumer forums, Voluntary Consumer Organizations (VCOs)/ NGOs, etc.

Theme

Ut warmly invite you to submit your essay entries on the theme of “navigating the dynamics of mediation in contemporary legal practices”. It encompasses several suggestive sub-themes aimed at stimulating innovative ideas and insightful analysis which are as follows:-

  • Mediation as an alternative to litigation in legal disputes
  • Mediation and social justice: promoting equality and fairness
  • The future of mediation: emerging trends and challenges
  • Mediation in International Conflicts
  • The Interplay between Mediation, Insolvency & Bankruptcy
  • Mediation in cases of Intellectual Property Rights disputes
  • Mediation Accessibility: Breaking Barriers for Equitable Dispute Resolution
  • Mediation in Crisis: Legal Frameworks for Emergency Conflict Resolution
  • Beyond Borders: International Mediation Law and the Quest for Consistency
  • Mediation Ethics in the Digital Era: Balancing Innovation and Integrity
  • Cultural Sensitivity in Mediation Law: A Path to Inclusive Justice
  • Smart Contracts and Mediation: A Synergistic Approach to Dispute Resolution
  • Restorative Justice and Mediation: Fostering Healing in the Criminal Justice System

Note: “These topics are merely indicative and non-exhaustive. Submissions should address relevant and contemporary legal and policy issues within the broad themes outlined herein.”

Formatting Guidelines

The following formatting specifications need to be strictly adhered to: Main Body: Font – Times New Roman, Font Size – 12, and Line Spacing – 1.5; Footnotes: Font – Times New Roman, Font Size – 10, and Line Spacing – 1.0; Margins should be 1 inch or 2.54 cm on all sides; justified alignment.

Selection Guidelines

All submissions are subject to plagiarism check. A maximum of 10% similarity to existing publications is permissible in submitted works (excluding citations).

Submission Guidelines

  • The essay must be written in English and submitted in Microsoft Word document format (.doc/.docx).
  • Each essay must be submitted by a single author only. No co-authorship is permitted.Only a single submission is allowed per author.
  • The word limit is 1500 – 2500 words excluding footnotes. Footnotes must follow the Bluebook format of citation (Harvard, 20th edition).
  • The essay must be accompanied by a separate document containing the following: (i) full details of the participant i.e. name, institution affiliation, phone number, email ID etc; (ii) theme/topic chosen; (iii) A declaration stating that the essay is an original work of the author: “I certify that my submission is original, has not been published elsewhere, and is not under review or consideration elsewhere.” (iv) With signature of author in .pdf Format.

Prizes

  • First Prize: Rs. 15000/- INR, Certificate of Merit & Internship Opportunity
  • Second Prize: Rs. 10000/-INR, Certificate of Merit & Internship Opportunity
  • Third Prize: Rs. 5000/-INR, Certificate of Merit & Internship Opportunity
  • All three winners will be given an internship opportunity at K&R Legal Advocates and Solicitors.
  • Certificate of Participation: All those who register and submit the essay will be provided with a certificate of participation.
