About Centre for Legal Research & Policy Studies (CLRPS)

The Centre for Legal Research & Policy Studies (CLRPS) was established in October 2024 at ICFAI Law School, Hyderabad, to advance legal research and policy analysis in India. CLRPS strives to be a premier center for legal scholarship, data-driven policy insights, and meaningful contributions to legal reforms.

About the Competition

1st Justice K.G. Balakrishnan 5-Day Legal Research Marathon 2025 is India’s first mega legal research event, bringing together students and legal scholars to engage in intensive research competitions, policy analysis, and academic writing.

Eligibility

• Open to students pursuing a 3-year LL.B., 5-year Integrated LL.B., or LL.M. from a BCI-recognized law school or university.
• Each team must consist of exactly 2 members.
• There is no cap on the number of teams from a single institution.

ICFAI Law School, IFHE Campus, Donthanapally, Shankarapalli Road, Hyderabad – 501203, Telangana

Competition Structure

The marathon is structured into three major segments:

A. Core Events (Mandatory – 5 Days)

Participants must select one core event from the following:
1️. Legal Research Article Writing – Showcase advanced legal research and writing skills.
2️. Research Proposal Contest – Present innovative research ideas with policy impact.
3️. Legislative Drafting – Draft legal frameworks and legislative proposals.

B. Semi-Core Events (Optional – 2 Hours on Sat/Sun)

Participants can opt for one semi-core event:

1. Research with AI – Integration of artificial intelligence in legal research.
2. Legal Research Quiz – Test knowledge of legal principles and methodologies.
3. Legal Scavenger Hunt – Find and analyze key legal texts and case laws.
4. Research Database Challenge – Deep dive into legal databases.

C. Fun with Research Events (Optional – 1-2 Hours on Sat/Sun)

Participants can choose one fun event:

1. Lightning Talks & Debates – Engage in rapid legal discussions.
2. Crosswords – Challenge analytical skills.
3. Research Marathon – Engage in research with healthy mind and body.
4. Media Journalism Reporting – Develop legal reporting and analytical skills.
5. Treasure Hunt – Legal knowledge & problem-solving.
6. Research with Movies – Analyze legal themes in films.

Each event will be judged by prominent legal scholars and policy experts.

Early Bird Registration: ₹2500 per team (Deadline: March 24, 2025)

Regular Registration: ₹3000 per team (Deadline: April 10, 2025)

Accommodation (Optional): ₹5000 per team for 5 days (On-campus stay)
