Jamia Millia Islamia, established in 1920, is a prestigious Central University, located in New Delhi and accredited by NAAC under category A++. It is an autonomous institution established by an act of Parliament and the Hon’ble President of India as its visitor. About Faculty of Law, Jamia Millia Islamia

The Faculty of Law at Jamia Millia Islamia, established in 1989, has evolved significantly from its initial three-year LL.B. program to a comprehensive institution. It now offers a five-year integrated B.A. LL.B (Hons.), two-year LL.M. specializations (Personal, Corporate, and Criminal Laws), and Ph.D. programs. The faculty emphasizes clinical legal education through its Legal Services Clinic and paramedic volunteer training under the National Legal Services Authority.

Students actively participate in moot courts, mediation competitions, and negotiation programs, winning multiple awards. Currently serving 750+ full-time students and 59 PhD scholars, the faculty awarded 10 PhDs in 2024-2025, advancing its mission as an excellence-focused legal education institution.

About ADR Committee, Faculty Of Law

Alternative Dispute Resolution Cell (ADRC), Faculty of Law, Jamia Millia Islamia, was established on 15 December 2022 to promote understanding and use of alternative dispute resolution mechanisms such as mediation, arbitration, and negotiation within the university and the wider community. The Cell aims to encourage active student participation by organising seminars and competitions to develop essential conflict resolution skills. In 2023, the ADRC was granted the status of a Committee.

Since then, it has regularly conducted trials, annual lecture series, and expert talks, and has represented the Faculty by sending teams to various competitions. In view of the growing importance of Alternative Dispute Resolution in academics and career opportunities, the ADRC continues to support student engagement in ADR activities.

About 1st Jamia National Mediation Competition

The 1st Jamia National Mediation Competition 2026, organised under the aegis of the Faculty of Law, Jamia Millia Islamia, aims to promote mediation and negotiation skills among law students across India. The Competition seeks to encourage the use of Alternative Dispute Resolution by focusing on mediation as an effective and collaborative method of resolving disputes, while also highlighting its growing relevance for future legal professionals.

The Competition is scheduled to be held on 13th, 14th, and 15th February 2026 and will bring together teams from leading law schools across the country in a structured format. Based on Jamia Millia Islamia’s commitment to academic excellence, social justice, and inclusive legal education, the Competition aims to provide a meaningful learning platform for students and to strengthen interaction between academia and the legal fraternity, contributing to the development of mediation practices in India.

Format & Structure of Competition

The Competition shall be organised as a mediation tournament, with each team comprising three (3) participants assigned the roles of Client, Counsel, and Mediator, which shall remain unchanged throughout the Competition. Participation shall be limited to twenty-four (24) teams, with all physical rounds conducted on campus and registrations accepted on a first-come, first-served basis, subject to fulfilment of the prescribed eligibility and registration requirements.

The on-campus mediation rounds shall consist of two (2) Preliminary Rounds, followed by one (1) Quarter-Final Round, and thereafter two (2) advanced rounds, namely the Semi-Final Round and the Final Round.

Nature and Subject Matter of Mediation Problems

The Competition will feature mediation problems drawn from various areas of law. Preliminary Rounds I and II will address Family Law disputes, followed by a Joint Venture dispute in the Quarter-Final Round. The Semi-Final Round will deal with Construction Law issues, and the Final Round will be based on a Bilateral Investment Treaty dispute.

Eligibility

Participation is limited to students pursuing their Bachelor’s Degree in Law (LLB or equivalent). Multiple teams from the same university are allowed.

Registration Fees

The registration fee for the Competition shall be ₹6,000/- per team with accommodation. All participants would be provided with one-month of complimentary subscription to SCC Online.

Accommodation

Accommodation for the participating teams shall be provided at the Nehru Guest House, the University Guest House located within the campus of Jamia Millia Islamia. The accommodation would include food, as per the arrangements made by the Organising Committee.

Time Limit

The time limit will be 60 minutes for the preliminary rounds and 90 minutes for the advanced rounds

Interested teams must complete their final registration by submitting the designated Google form by January 25, 2026 (11:59 PM IST). Only 24 teams will be selected. Registration is confirmed upon form submission and payment of the registration fee.

Once registered, teams will receive a unique code for all competition-related communications.
