About Army Institute of Law

Army Institute of Law is a private law school in Mohali, Punjab, India. The institute is affiliated to Punjabi University, Patiala, and is run by the Army Welfare Education Society. The institute has a moderately sized campus in Sector 68, Mohali. The hostels can house 400 students.

About 15th Checkmate AIL National Moot Court Competition 2025

With immense exuberance and alacrity, the Army Institute of Law takes utmost pleasure in announcing the 15th edition of AIL Checkmate National Moot Court Competition, 2025.

With the aim to propagate cognisance about the developing principles of Criminal Law in a systematic manner and train participants for effective practice, the moot problem aims to elucidate developments in this field through jurisprudential analysis of the existing law and consequential emergence of new laws, besides developing cutting-edge skills in research, writing and advocacy.

The competition is scheduled to be held from 6th to 8th November 2025. The moot will be judged by legal luminaries who have expertise in the legal issues stated in the moot problem.

Eligibility

Participation is open for students who are pursuing LLB three year / five-year course during the current academic year.

Awards

  • Best Team:- Rs. 42,000/- along with a certificate
  • Runners Up:- Rs. 33,000/- along with a certificate
  • Third Semi Finalist:- Rs. 9,000/- along with a certificate
  • Fourth Semi Finalist:- Rs. 6,000/- along with a certificate
  • Best Memorial:- Rs. 15,000/- along with a certificate
  • Second Best Memorial:- Rs. 9,000/- along with a certificate
  • Best Speaker:- Rs. 10,000/- along with a certificate
  • Second Best Speaker:- Rs.8,000/- along with a certificate

In addition to the above awards, plaques, and certificates will be given to other categories of winners. All participants will be awarded participation certificates.

Important Dates

  • Last date for Registration form along with submission of the fee for memorial @  Rs.1000/-: 24th September, 2025
  • Deadline for seeking clarifications to the proposition: 24th September, 2025
  • Release of clarifications: 26th September, 2025.
  • Deadline for submission of soft copies of Memorials: 9th October, 2025.
  • Declaration of the Result of the Memorials: 14th October, 2025.
  • Deadline for submission fee for Oral rounds: 17th October, 2025.
  • Schedule for Oral Rounds (Top16 teams that qualified for oral rounds)
    • Reporting to AIL Campus-Registration for Oral Rounds: 6th November, 2025, 3PM to 4PM.
    • Octa Final & Quarter Final: 7th November, 2025
    • Semi Final & Final Round: 8th November, 2025.

Registration Fee

Registration Fee for Memorial-based selection will be Rs 2000, which shall be Non-refundable for each participating team.

Registration Details

  • The teams should provisionally register by sending an Email to: [email protected] (with subject Moot Court Registration Checkmate 2025)
  • A maximum of 32 teams will be registered to participate in the competition on a first-come, first-served basis.
  • Registration Fee for Memorial-based selection will be Rs 2000, which shall be Non-refundable for each participating team. The fee for Memorial rounds is to be submitted through an online transaction by clicking on this link.
  • The scanned copy of the receipt of payment along with the duly filled registration form (attached with the brochure) should be sent via e- mail [email protected] with the following details

  • After the Memorial Round, Top 16 teams will qualify for Oral Rounds. Fee for Oral rounds to be held at AIL Mohali is Rs 4500/- (without accommodation). The said fee of Rs. 4500/- (Non-refundable) shall include only Lunch (7th-8th November 2025) for the participating team.

  • Changes to participant names will only be allowed in exceptional circumstances, subject to the sole discretion of the organisers. Such changes must be communicated at least one week prior to the event and must be supported by valid proof from the participating college.
