Workshop in Animal Rights Law by NALSAR: Register by Mar 9

About The Animal Law Centre
Animal Law Centre was established in 2018 with the aim to develop and further the cause of animal laws in India. The organization upholds and cherishes the values of equality, cooperation, and mutual learning, among others. The members of the team at ALC find passion and motivation in furthering the cause of animal welfare beyond the scope of legal efforts, towards transforming it as a social movement. Under the aegis of NALSAR University, the Centre aspires to develop an interdisciplinary environment within the animal protection movement.
ALC primarily focuses on legal research but is also involved in policy, advocacy, awareness campaigns, sensitization workshops, etc. The areas of work range from an analysis of existing laws and policies to proposals and advisories on framing new legal instruments.
About the Cambridge Centre
The Cambridge Centre for Animal Rights Law was launched in 2019 as an educational charity with the goal of advancing the study of fundamental rights for animals. The Centre has three main pillars: research, teaching, and outreach.
About the Workshop
The Workshop will be given in English by Dr Sean Butler (Fellow, St Edmund’s College, Cambridge and Affiliated Lecturer, University of Cambridge) and Dr Raffael Fasel (Affiliated Lecturer, University of Cambridge), who together teach Animal Rights Law as part of the undergraduate Law degree at the University of Cambridge. Drs Butler and Fasel have also written the first textbook on Animal Rights Law (Hart Publishing 2023).
In the Workshop, Drs Butler and Fasel will share all the course materials from their Cambridge University course, discuss strategies of how to put together an Animal Rights Law syllabus, and look at what readings to include and how to involve students. Participants will develop their own Animal Rights Law course outline during the Workshop. In addition, a session on ‘Pedagogy of Animal Rights Law’ will be taught by an educational expert to support interactive teaching methods.
Participants of the Workshop will become members of the Animal Rights Law Teaching Network, a global community of animal rights law teachers. The community is a source for further resources (such as syllabi, powerpoints, and training sessions) and connections with other Animal Rights Law specialists.
The Workshop will be held in Hyderabad (India) in collaboration with the Animal Law Centre at NALSAR University from 1-5 July 2024. The last date to register is 09th March 2024
