About TNNLU International Med-Arb Competition (IMAC), 2025

The ADRC of TNNLU is proud to introduce the Inaugural Edition of the International Med-Arb Competition (IMAC), a premier platform for aspiring dispute resolution professionals across the globe. Med-Arb stands out as a hybrid process that combines the collaborative approach of Mediation with the decisive framework of Arbitration. This
competition seeks to provide participants with a holistic understanding of this innovative mechanism, preparing them to excel in real-world conflict resolution.

This competition consists of two separate Stages of Mediation and Arbitration in every Round. The team reprising the role of Client-Counsel in the Mediation Rounds will become the Counsels in the Arbitration Rounds. The participant reprising the role of a Mediator in the Mediation rounds don the role of an Arbitrator in the Arbitration Rounds. After the completion of each online Preliminary Round, the participants reprising the role of Mediator/Arbitrator shall be given time to draft an Arbitral Award.

The preliminary rounds of the competition will be conducted online, ensuring accessibility for teams worldwide.
The top 16 teams from the 32 teams participating in the Preliminary Rounds will then proceed to the offline Advanced Rounds, consisting of a Qualifier Round, Semi-Finals, and Finals. The Advanced Rounds, set to be hosted at the TNNLU campus in Tiruchirappalli, India, will see participants engage in Med-Arb rounds in a vibrant and immersive setting.

Structure of Competition

The competition is built upon the Med-Arb Model of dispute resolution. This competition consists of two separate rounds of Mediation and Arbitration. The negotiating team reprising the role of Client-Counsel in the Mediation Rounds will become the Counsel in the Arbitration Rounds. The participant reprises the role of a Mediator in the Mediation rounds rand eprises the role of an Arbitrator in the Arbitration Rounds. After the completion of each prelim, which is comprised of one mediation round and one arbitration round, the participant(s) reprising the role of mediator/arbitrator shall draft an arbitral award for the rounds. All the participants will be judged by a separate panel of judges in the two Preliminary Rounds for Mediation and Arbitration. The Arbitral Award shall also be evaluated.

Provisional Registration

  • Provisional Registration enables an Institution or Team to apply to the Organizing Committee to reserve one of the thirty-two participation slots before Final Registration.
  • Provisional Registration by interested Institutions or Teams must be done by filling the Google Form on or before 11:59 PM IST on December 15th, 2025.
  • The Organizing Committee shall assign participation slots in the Competition to Applicant Institutions/Teams who have successfully completed the Provisional Registration process by the aforementioned deadline on the basis of the information submitted by them through the Provisional Registration Form. The decision of the Organizing Committee shall be final in this regard.
  • The names of the Selected Institutions/Teams will be communicated to the Applicant Institutions/Teams via email by December 20th, 2025.
  • All Selected Teams shall pay a non-refundable registration fee for the Preliminary Rounds of the Competition. Teams qualifying for the Advanced Rounds must pay an additional non-refundable registration fee for the Advanced Rounds.
    NOTE: In the event of a Selected Team forfeiting its participation slot, the Organizing Committee may, entirely within its discretionary power, replace the said Selected Team and offer participation to any other Applicant Team that has successfully completed its application.

Clarifications

  • Requests for clarifications shall be sent to [email protected] on or before 11:59 PM IST on January 2nd, 2025.
  • The subject line of emails seeking clarifications shall be “Clarifications – IMAC 2025”.
  • Clarifications shall be released by the Organizing Committee by January 12th, 2025.
