The Department of Law, University of Calcutta (CU), also known as Hazra Law College, is a historic and prominent legal education center in Kolkata, offering undergraduate (B.A. LL.B. 5-year) and affiliated programs through several colleges, known for its strong legacy, NAAC ‘A’ accreditation, and admissions via the Calcutta University Law Entrance Test (CULET-UG)
About the Magazine Committee
Established in the year 2019, the Magazine Committee aims to chonicle and showcase the diverse activities and achievements within the institution as well as of the various competitions organised by the Committee. The Committee publishes it’s annual magazine ‘The Muses’, written and edited by the students of the Department of Law, University of Calcutta, which chronicles all activities under the aegis of the institution and paints a picture of the yearly endeavours of this institute and its students.
This publication provides a platform for the students to exhibit their creative, scientific, literary, academic prowess. In this edition, the committee is accepting submissions from all.
It also runs an online blog “The Musing” where articles, essays, poems and interviews are published.

The Magazine Committee, Department of Law is pleased to announce the theme of this week’s The Sunday Blog Post.
Theme: Redefining Recognition: Navigating the Legal Gaps and the Quest for Substantive Equality in Modern India
India’s transgender community stands at a complex legal crossroads. While current legislation provides a framework for rights, significant friction remains regarding self-identification and socioeconomic inclusion. Examine the gap between legislative intent and lived reality, focusing on recent pushes for horizontal reservations and broader civil protections. Why legal recognition must evolve into genuine social dignity to ensure the promise of equality is finally fulfilled for all citizens.
Eligibility
Any undergraduate student from any colleges.
Submission Details
- Languages accepted: English, বাংলা (Bengali), हिंदी (Hindi).
- Font: Times New Roman (mandatory).
- File format: Word document (.doc / .docx).
- Word limit: 450–500 words (analytical essays, critical reflections, or reportage).
- One author = One submission.
- Use of AI: Any article found to exceed 10% AI-generated content will be DISQUALIFIED.
- Hyperlinks should be used when necessary(for footnotes if necessary)
- RENAME your files with your respective names.

24th April, 2026 (11:59 p.m. IST )
