The Government of Tamil Nadu by an Act of the State Legislature [Act No.43 of 1997] established the Tamil Nadu Dr. Ambedkar Law University for the advancement and dissemination of knowledge in learning, teaching, and research in the field of law. His Excellency Shri. K.R. Narayanan, former President of India inaugurated it on September 20, 1997. The University is recognised by the Bar Council of India (BCI) and the University Grants Commission.

About School of Excellence in Law

The School of Excellence in Law established by the University at its campus in 2002 has been modeled on the lines of other National Law Schools in the country and offers three years as well as five-year integrated undergraduate courses in Law. The University has a Postgraduate and Research Centre, which offers Master of Law Degree Courses in eleven different specializations, and doctoral programmes as well as organizing research in diverse areas of law.

About the Department of Intellectual Property Law

The Department of Intellectual Property Law of the Tamil Nadu Dr Ambedkar Law University, Chennai was established in the year 2005, as the III branch of specialized study in the University. The LL.M. in intellectual property is designed to equip students with an advanced knowledge and understanding of intellectual property law and policy. During the course of study, the students will have the opportunity to undertake- depth study of a range of contemporary issues in intellectual property law and develop further critical understanding and research.

Theme For 2024: “IP and the SDGs: Building our Common Future with Innovation and Creativity” 

World Intellectual Property Day 2024 is an opportunity to explore how intellectual property (IP) encourages and can amplify the innovative and creative solutions that are so crucial to building our common future. In order to build our common future and achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), we need to rethink how we live, work, and play.

The seminar will be held in hybrid mode. Though remote (online) participation is accepted, the physical presence of the participants would be appreciated.

  • Trade secrets and sustainable business practices for SDG 12 
  • IP strategies for fostering innovation in affordable housing 
  • The role of IP in promoting ethical and sustainable practices in the beauty and cosmetics industry 
  • Global IP Governance and SDGs

It may be noted that the above-mentioned themes are only illustrative in nature and other related topics may also be included

Call for Research Papers 

Papers are invited from Academicians, Legal practitioners, Research Scholars, and students on the issues related to the theme. The original and unpublished papers will be considered for presentation in the seminar. The paper will be evaluated by the experts and selected papers will be published in the next Volume of ALUIPLR (Ambedkar Law University Intellectual Property Law Review).

It may be noted that the papers submitted will be subject to anti plagiarism check, and the papers with plagiarized contents will be rejected. Further, all the papers will be subjected to double-blind review. Only full papers submitted on or before the deadline shall be considered for presentation. The author of the selected paper will be given an opportunity to present the paper.

Guidelines for Paper Submission

  • The abstract should not contain more than 250 words along with the particulars of the author including his/her email, contact number, and the author’s address for correspondence. 
  • The name of the Author, and institution of affiliation should be given in a separate sheet.
  • The maximum limit of the paper is 5000 words (excluding footnotes). 
  • File type: MS Word, Page A4 Margins: 1’’ on all sides.
  • Font: Times New Roman Size 12 for the main body with 1.5 lines spacing and Times New Roman Size 10 with single line space for footnotes.
  • A uniform style (Blue Book 20th Edition) of citation must be strictly adhered to. 
  • The soft copy of the full papers should be sent to: [email protected]

Registration Fee

for students is Rs. 300/- 

For others (Academicians, Legal practitioners, Research Scholars) is Rs. 1000/-

Delegates desirous of participating in the National Seminar are requested to confirm their participation by filling in the registration form on or before 5th April 2024. The participants presenting at the venue are requested to make their own arrangements for travel and accommodation.
