NIRF Rankings 2025: NLUs continue to lead, NLSIU Bengaluru tops for 8th year

The National Law School of India University (NLSIU), Bengaluru, has once again secured the top spot in the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF 2025) law rankings, making it the eighth year in a row.

National Law University, Delhi (NLU Delhi), and NALSAR University of Law, Hyderabad, have held on to their second and third positions respectively. West Bengal National University of Juridical Sciences (WBNUJS), Kolkata, remains at fourth place.
Gujarat National Law University (GNLU), Gandhinagar, showed the biggest improvement this year, rising three places to grab the fifth spot, up from rank eight in 2024.
The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kharagpur’s Rajiv Gandhi School of Intellectual Property Law is ranked sixth, followed by Symbiosis Law School, Pune; Jamia Millia Islamia; Aligarh Muslim University; and Siksha ‘O’ Anusandhan, Bhubaneswar.
The rankings were announced by the Ministry of Education on its official YouTube channel. NIRF evaluates institutions on six parameters: Teaching, Learning & Resources, Research and Professional Practice, Graduation Outcomes, Outreach and Inclusivity, and Perception.
This year, 267 law colleges participated, but only 13 National Law Universities (NLUs) found a place in the top 40. Among them are NLU Odisha (15th), Chanakya National Law University (17th), RMLNLU Lucknow (21st), NLIU Bhopal (27th), MNLU Nagpur (28th), NUSRL Ranchi (30th), HPNLU Shimla (34th), and NLUJAA Assam (35th).
