About the Department

Atal Bihari Vajpayee School of Legal Studies, Kanpur stands for excellence in legal education and was established in 2017 under the illustrious banner of Chhatrapati Shahu Ji Maharaj University, Kanpur. The premier law school is set up with a mission to pioneer legal education reforms and to anchor the transformation of the Indian legal system through research and policy interventions.

About Call for Papers

The National Seminar on “One Nation, One Election” focuses on the proposal to synchronize Lok Sabha and State Assembly elections in India. The theme explores its feasibility, legal and constitutional reforms, economic and logistical impacts, political implications, voter participation, and governance efficiency. The seminar aims to encourage academic discussion, policy recommendations, and a comparative global perspective on simultaneous elections. Students Researchers, academicians, and professionals are invited to submit their original work.

Date: 21st and 22nd March’ 2025

Venue: Tatya Tope Senate Hall, CSJMU Campus, Kanpur.

Time: 10:00 a.m. Onwards

Eligibility

Submissions are open to:

  • Students (UG, PG, and Ph.D. candidates)
  • Research scholars
  • Academicians
  • Industry experts from law and social science fields

Note: For UG/PG/ Ph.D. students, there is no bar on the number of participants from the same College/University/Institution.

Theme

Main Theme:

ONE NATION ONE ELECTION

Sub-Themes

  • Increase in efficiency of government due to the policy.
  • The Effect of policy on the economical and Logistic aspects.
  • The dynamics between Central Govt. & State Govt. regarding the federal structure.
  • Continuity and stability in policies for smooth execution and stable government.
  • The operational challenges existing in the implication of the policies and requirement of alignment of the term of Lok Sabha and various state assemblies.
  • The legal amendments and co-ordination across political lines.
  • The impact on Public Engagement and electoral participation.
  • The effect on Political Campaigns and regional representation.

*The list of themes is not exhaustive and any incidental/allied areas may be covered.

Note: Submissions on any related themes are also welcome.

Submission Categories

  • Research Papers: 2500-5000 words (excluding footnotes and Abstract)
  • Abstract: 300 words and must indicate the theme of the proposed research with relevant keywords. It must be accompanied by a cover page which should include:

  • Title of the Paper
  • Name of the author(s)
  •  E-mail address
  • Postal address and Contact Number
  • Co-authorship is allowed. (Maximum two authors)

Formatting Guidelines

  • Font: Times New Roman
  • Font Size: 12 for the main text, 10 for footnotes
  • Line Spacing: 1.5 for the main text, single spacing for footnotes
  • Citation Style: (ILI) citation format
  • File Format: Submissions should be in .doc or .pdf format

Submission Guidelines

  • Abstract: Should not exceed 300 words and must include relevant keywords, title, and author details (email, contact number).
  • Full Paper: 2500-5000 words excluding footnotes.
  • Submission Email: Abstracts should be submitted to [email protected]
  • with the subject line: “Abstract Submission for one nation one election “ and can be submitted using google form link shared below.
  • File Naming: [Author Name_Title of the Paper].

The selected papers will be published in reputable journals, peer-reviewed journals, or books (with an ISBN number).

Mode of Presentation

Physical or Hybrid (for paper presentation) on March 21 & 22, 2025. Paper may be submitted and presented either in Hindi or English.

  • Last Date for registration: 10th March’2025
  • Date of Acceptance of Abstract: 12th  March 2025
  • Last Date submission of Full paper: 15th March’2025
