 About the Organisation 

The Centre for Consumer Research and Policy (CCRP) at the National University of Study and Research in Law (NUSRL), Ranchi, is organizing the National Moot Court Competition on Consumer Protection Laws. This competition is sponsored by the Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food & Public Distribution, Government of India, which works actively to safeguard and protect consumer rights. The competition will take place at NUSRL, Ranchi from 22nd to 24th November 2024.

 About the Opportunity 

This prestigious event offers law students from across the country the opportunity to engage with complex legal challenges related to consumer protection. The moot problem will focus on contemporary issues such as unfair trade practices, e-commerce regulations, product defects, and consumer dispute resolution mechanisms. Participants will showcase their research, drafting, and oral advocacy skills before a distinguished panel of judges.

 Theme 

The central theme of the competition is Consumer Protection Laws, with a particular focus on the Consumer Protection Act, 2019. The moot problem will cover aspects such as consumer rights in the digital economy, corporate accountability, and legal frameworks for dispute resolution.

Eligibility 

The competition is open to all law students currently enrolled in LL.B. programs (3-year and 5-year integrated courses) from recognized law universities and colleges across India.

Registration Fee 

  • Fee for Memorial Qualifier Round- No fee.
  • Fee for Oral Rounds with Accommodation
  • (only for qualifying teams)- INR 5,000/-
  • Fee for Oral Rounds without Accommodation-  INR 3,000/-

Teams must consist of 3 members: two speakers and one researcher.

Prizes 

  • Winner: ₹20,000 + Trophy 
  • Runner-Up: ₹15,000 + Trophy 
  • Best Speaker: ₹10,000  + Trophy 
  • Best Memorial( Complainant Side): ₹5,000  + Trophy 
  • Best Memorial(Opposite Party Side): ₹5,000  + Trophy 

Important Dates 

  • Last Date for Registration: 5th November 2024 
  • Memorial Submission Deadline: 5th November 2024 
  • Oral Rounds: 22nd – 24th November 2024

Registration Process 

Interested teams can register by filling out the Google form provided in the rule book so attached or by visiting the university website. The registration fee must be paid through the provided payment gateway. Once registered, participants will receive a confirmation email.
