About the Organisation

National Law University, Tripura (NLUT), established by Tripura Act No. 3 of 2022, is the 25th National Law University in India, located in Agartala. The University is dedicated to becoming a torchbearer of legal education in the North-Eastern region. This conference is organized by the Kautilya Centre for Law and Economics (KCLE) and the Centre for Study and Research in Vedic Jurisprudence (CSRVJ) at NLUT, in collaboration with the Tripura Law and Training Institute.

About the Conference

The National Conference on “Kautilya’s Arthashastra: Ancient Wisdom and Contemporary Legal Thought” aims to revisit the Arthashastra as a foundational text and explore its relevance to modern Indian legal and administrative systems. It seeks to situate ancient principles of dharma, artha, and nyaya within present-day constitutional frameworks. The event will be held in Hybrid Mode on 20-21 March 2026.

About Call for Papers

The organizing committee invites abstracts and full papers that explore the intersections between ancient Indian jurisprudential wisdom and the contemporary legal order. Selected papers will be published as book chapters in an edited volume by Eastern Book Company (EBC). The ten best papers will receive Certificates of Excellence.

Eligibility

Academicians, legal practitioners, policymakers, researchers, Ph.D. scholars, and UG & PG Students of Law and other Social Sciences are eligible to participate. Note: Students must submit papers jointly with a faculty member or research scholar.

Theme: The conference focuses on the following themes:

  • Theme 1: Kautilya’s Arthashastra – A Foundational Text in Governance and Law.
  • Theme 2: Arthashastra and the Concept of Rule of Law.
  • Theme 3: Statecraft, Economy, and Legal Regulation.
  • Theme 4: Security, Espionage, and Public Order: The Legal Dimension.
  • Theme 5: Kautilyan Thought and Modern Indian Legal Philosophy.

Submission Categories

Abstract: Approximately 350 words.

Full Paper: 6,000–8,000 words.

Formatting Guidelines

  • Font: Times New Roman, 12-point, 1.5 spacing.
  • Citation Style: Indian Law Institute (ILI), New Delhi.
  • File Format: MS Word.

Submission Guidelines

  • Abstracts must include: Name, Designation & Institution, Email ID, and Title of Abstract.
  • Only original and unpublished work will be accepted; a plagiarism report is required.
  • Abstracts will be peer-reviewed.

Submission Deadline

  • Submission of Extended Abstract: 05th March 2026.
  • Confirmation of Abstract Selection: 10th March 2026.
  • Last Date for Registration: 11th March 2026.
  • Submission of Full Paper: 31st July 2026.
