Negotiation competitions form an important part of practical legal education by testing skills that extend beyond traditional courtroom advocacy. Participants are generally required to understand competing interests, communicate proposals, respond to changing situations and work towards solutions acceptable to the parties involved.

Such competitions also give law students an opportunity to develop professional communication and dispute-resolution skills in a structured competitive setting. Performance is assessed not only on the final outcome but also on the approach adopted during the negotiation process.

The 4th VGU R.K. Rastogi Memorial Negotiation Competition 2026 concluded with NALSAR University of Law taking the top honour, WBNUJS finishing as runner-up, UPES Dehradun securing the Best Negotiator recognition and SVKM’s NMIMS Indore receiving the Spirit of the Competition award.
