About the Job
Call for Applications: Litigation Officer. Candidates will be expected to join from November 2023.
Eligibility
- Candidates with a Bachelor’s degree in Law (B.A.LLB.) and enrollment in the Bar Council of Delhi with a minimum of 0 to 3 years experience in criminal/civil litigation;
- Interest in issues of human rights and social justice, as well as in community engagement and developing a trauma-informed approach to representing survivors of identity-based violence
- Sound knowledge of and interest in constitutional law, international human rights law, as well as domestic criminal law, family law, and other important statutes relevant to the field of human rights;
- Experience in legal drafting, court hearings, arguments, client-counsel meetings and briefing of senior advocates;
- Familiarity with and ability to use Indian legal research databases such as SCC and Manupatra;
- Excellent oral, written, and presentation skills in English; ability to converse in and read another Indian language
- Good organizational skills and willingness to do detail-oriented work;
Responsibilities
- Represent survivors of gender-based and other forms of identity-based violence and discrimination in the Delhi High Court and lower courts and tribunals, from client intake and drafting of applications, petitions and other legal documents to preparation for court, including legal research and briefing of senior advocates and co-counsels in appropriate cases;
- Maintain and update case files;
- Coordinate with community organizations to ensure holistic support for survivors/victims and to ensure skill development of community-based organizations through legal training as well as legal aid and advice;
- Work closely with other teams in the organization to build a cohesive strategy on litigation, research and and participate in other training and activities in furtherance of the organization’s mission and vision;
- File RTI applications and complaints in public offices and human rights bodies such as National Human Rights Commission, National Commission for Women, National Commission for Scheduled Castes, National Commission for Scheduled Tribes, etc.;
- Assistance in office programs and activities including attending/conducting meetings, training, and workshops on gender-based violence and other identity-based violence; preparing field reports, review reports, periodic reports, and other necessary documents that the organization might require;
- Conducting field visits within and outside Delhi for meetings, training etc if required
Salary
The salary will be commensurate with the work experience and relevant qualifications of the Candidate (within an approximate bracket of Rs. 3,60,000 – 5,40,000 per annum).
