National Law University Odisha is a public law school and a National law University in India located at Cuttack, Odisha. It was established in 2008 under the National Law University Odisha Act, commencing its first batch from July 2009. The institute offers undergraduate courses, and post-graduate courses in law.
About Late Shri Dinabandhu Sahu
Late Shri Dinabandhu Sahu was first and foremost a patriot, whose actions in the public sphere, in and outside Government, were directed towards the social, educational and economic advancement of people at large and the development of the nation. He was deeply influenced by Mahatma Gandhi which was reflected in his humane dealing with all persons irrespective of their position or station in life. Everyone who interacted with him felt close to him. As a person, he was upright and fearless. He was a brilliant lawyer and his cross-examination skills were legendary.
About The Speaker
Shri Amod K Kanth is the founder and mentor of Prayas JAC (Juvenile Aid Centre) Society (Foremost practice & research centre on everything Juvenile Justice), juvenile justice champion. He is also an eminent author and social development expert. His public service has spanned over four decades. The key positions he has held range from First Chairman of Delhi Commission for Protection of Child Rights (DCPCR), Director General Police for Goa and DGP Police for Arunachal Pradesh and Former-Coordinator of NITI Ayog-CSOs Standing Committee.
About The Topic
The topic for the lecture is “Framing Juvenile Justice in Child Rights,” wherein Shri Kanth will dive deep into how and why juvenile justice is integral to and located in the Child Rights framework, its journey so far, the evolution of the law as it stands today, it’s implementation on the ground, and the actual access to justice and challenges that the children face. He will share his insights into the challenges and how to address them to meaningfully achieve child rights and justice for all children.
