About the Job
HSBC is inviting applications for the position of Assistant Legal Counsel within its Bangalore Legal Department.
The role is part of the Market Securities Services (MSS) team, which provides legal advice, guidance and support to Corporate and Investment Banking (CIB). The position involves negotiating and executing master trading documentation and other industry-standard legal documents relating to foreign exchange, derivatives, custody, repurchase agreements and securities lending or borrowing.
Eligibility
- Law degree from a recognised law college or university in India or overseas.
- 2 years of experience working in a legal process involving drafting or vetting agreements and contracts.
- Proven skills in drafting agreements and contracts.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to develop effective working relationships across relevant functions.
- Ability to work effectively as both a team player and an individual contributor.
- Ability to communicate effectively with the Legal team and third-party Relationship Managers.
- Understanding of business and product knowledge in Global Markets.
- Awareness of simple and complex deal structures.
- Understanding of Common Law, particularly in relation to the United Kingdom.
Responsibilities
- Undertaking end-to-end negotiation and execution of traded market documents, including Custody Agreements, ISDA Master Agreements, Credit Support Annexes, AFMA agreements, GMRAs, GMSLAs, CDEAs, Compensation Agreements, Guarantees and FX Give Up notices.
- Conducting detailed legal and analytical research.
- Reviewing constitutional documents of counterparties based on their jurisdiction and applicable laws.
- Managing assigned cases through to completion.
- Coordinating and interacting with departments across Corporate and Investment Banking and other critical stakeholders.
- Ensuring timely updates to internal databases.
- Ensuring completed documentation provides appropriate credit and legal protection for the Bank.
- Negotiating treasury product documentation in a timely, consistent and effective manner.
- Providing client-friendly support to internal and external clients to facilitate business requirements.
- Working with minimal supervision and taking personal ownership of assigned work.
- Following relevant Group policies, procedures, standards, manuals, desk instructions and process guides.
- Completing mandatory training modules within stipulated timelines.
- Managing frequent follow-ups and meeting quick turnaround requirements.
