About The International Conference on Protection of Environment Under International Law
The escalating phenomenon of climate change, alongside pervasive environmental degradation, presents an existential threat to humanity and the planet. The global warming, sea-level rise, biodiversity loss, land degradation, and a surge in extreme weather events, inflicting widespread ecological and socio-economic damage. The intricate web of environmental challenges—encompassing oceans, biodiversity, forests, chemical pollution, and waste management, underscores the need for a unified and robust international response. While the impacts of environmental harm transcend national borders, the responsibility for addressing this crisis is not uniformly distributed.
Developed nations, owing to their historical industrialization and higher per capita emissions, bear a significant share of accountability. However, the scale and complexity of the environmental crisis necessitate a truly global effort, involving not only states but also international organisations, civil society, the private sector, and local communities. International law plays a crucial role in shaping this global response. From foundational principles of state responsibility to multilateral environmental agreements, mainly the Sustainable Development Goals, SDG 13, SDG 14, SDG 15 & SDG 16 explicitly talking about taking actions against climate change to make sure life sustenance is assured, being placed before the table to be achieved, international legal frameworks provide the architecture for cooperation, accountability, and the development of sustainable practices.
Thus, given the global recognition of the Climate Emergency, the “International Conference on Protection of Environment under International Law” is organized to serve as a forum for discussion on important and current issues while advancing environmental law, policy, and practice in the areas of pollution, forests, wildlife, biodiversity protection, and climate change. This International Conference would seek to deliberate on the pressing issues that concern the environment, delving into comparative legal framework on environmental protection, the interface between environment and businesses, activities that foster development, energy security, climate change, and biodiversity protection, while taking into consideration the development of an international framework concerning national issues and concerns on the environment.
The constantly changing field of environmental law is a combination of ideas, standards, and principles from various scientific fields. The international environmental framework merely reflects the global community’s determined attempt to mitigate and reverse environmental deterioration while also slowing our march toward the human era. As a result, the main objectives of the conference are to address environmental issues and to preserve the environment for future generations, laying the groundwork for sustainable development.
