About Integral University

Integral University, located in the North-Eastern part of the UP state capital city, Lucknow. It is a state private university established in 2004 and approved by UGC under sections 2(f) and 12(B) of the UGC Act, 1956. About the Competition

Theme: Innovating Environmental Governance through AI-Assisted Legal Drafting.

The EnviroLegis AI Drafting Competition 2026 provides participants an opportunity to explore the use of artificial intelligence in legislative and policymaking. Participants may use AI tools for research, ideation, and drafting while demonstrating independent legal reasoning, originality, and responsible judgment. Participants may draft either a bill or a policy, addressing the environmental challenges provided in the problem statements. These challenges are inspired by the recurring environmental concerns in India and other developing jurisdictions, encouraging practical, innovative, and legally enforceable solutions.

Problem Statements

1. Animal Welfare, Responsible Feeding & Public Safety – Draft a bill or policy establishing a comprehensive framework for regulated feeding zones, humane and adequately maintained animal shelters, responsible feeding practices, sterilization and vaccination, and accountability of local authorities, while balancing animal welfare with public safety.
2. Urban Air Pollution & the Delhi AQI Crisis— Draft a Bill or Policy addressing urban air pollution, with special reference to the recurring Delhi AQI crisis, providing mechanisms for pollution-source regulation, emergency measures during severe AQI episodes, institutional accountability, public participation, and protection of vulnerable populations.
3. Forest Conservation, Green Corridors & Wildlife Protection – Draft a bill or policy providing for the creation and protection of green and wildlife corridors, regulation of tree and forest clearance for infrastructure projects, ecological restoration, and measures ensuring safe movement of wildlife between fragmented habitats.
4. Carbon Taxation & Industrial Environmental Responsibility – Draft a bill or policy introducing a suitable carbon tax or carbon-pricing mechanism for high-emission industrial activities, while addressing issues such as determination of taxable emissions, exemptions or incentives, use of collected revenue, compliance, monitoring, and prevention of excessive economic burden on smaller industries.
5. Urban Flooding, Rainwater Harvesting & Climate-Resilient Cities – Draft a bill or policy for preventing and managing urban flooding through mandatory rainwater harvesting, protection of natural drainage systems and wetlands, sustainable urban planning, stormwater management, flood-risk mapping, and accountability of local authorities.
6. Integrated Waste Management, Plastic Pollution & E-Waste – Draft a Bill or Policy establishing an integrated framework for plastic and e-waste management, including mandatory waste segregation, reduction of single-use plastics, Extended Producer Responsibility, collection and take-back systems, authorized recycling facilities, safe e-waste disposal, incentives for sustainable alternatives, penalties for illegal dumping, digital monitoring of waste movement, and accountability of producers, consumers, waste handlers, and local authorities.

Eligibility

• Open to students enrolled in undergraduate or postgraduate programs in law, policy, governance, environmental sciences, or allied disciplines from recognized universities and institutions in India.
• Individual participation or teams of two are allowed.
