About the Course on AI and Copyright Law

The intersection of artificial intelligence and copyright law represents one of the most dynamic and challenging frontiers in contemporary legal scholarship. As generative AI technologies reshape creative industries and challenge fundamental assumptions about authorship, originality, and intellectual property rights, traditional copyright frameworks find themselves grappling with unprecedented questions that demand innovative legal solutions.

This interdisciplinary course on AI and Copyright Law addresses the urgent need to understand and navigate the complex regulatory landscape emerging at the confluence of technological innovation and intellectual property protection. The course critically examines how AI-generated outputs qualify for copyright protection and recent developments in the United States, European Union, and other major jurisdictions.

The course addresses practical challenges facing both creative industries and AI developers, from training data licensing and fair use applications to liability frameworks and transparency requirements. Through examination of real-world scenarios involving major technology companies, publishers, and artists, students will develop skills to anticipate future regulatory challenges and craft strategic legal positions for diverse stakeholders.
