Christine Chiramel Parts Ways with Rahul Chaudhry & Partners; Set to Establish IP Practice at Chiramel & Co.

Having spent the last decade at Rahul Chaudhry & Partners (formerly Lall Lahiri & Salhotra) and being earlier associated with Singh & Singh and Anand & Anand, Ms. Christine Chiramel joins Chiramel & Co. – the full-service firm led by Mr. Jos Chiramel, established in 1985 and renowned for its dispute-resolution practice – to build out its Intellectual Property, Media & Entertainment, Technology, AI, Data Protection and Corporate Commercial offering.
Christine Chiramel has stepped down from her role as Partner – Trade Marks at Rahul Chaudhry & Partners and is set to establish the Intellectual Property practice at Chiramel & Co., Solicitors and Advocates, a full-service law firm established in 1985 under the leadership of Mr. Jos Chiramel.
Over the course of a seventeen-year legal career, Christine Chiramel has been associated with several of India’s leading intellectual property practices. After completing her LL.M. in 2009 from Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law, New York, she practiced at Singh & Singh, Vaish Associates and thereafter at Anand & Anand, before joining Rahul Chaudhry & Partners (formerly Lall Lahiri & Salhotra), where she has spent the last decade — most recently as Partner heading the Firm’s Trade Marks practice.
At Chiramel & Co., Christine will establish and lead the Firm’s Intellectual Property practice and will spearhead the Firm’s expansion into Media & Entertainment, Technology, Artificial Intelligence, Data Protection, and Corporate Commercial Law.
The new offering at Chiramel & Co. will span Trade Marks, Copyright, GI, Designs and Patents, including prosecution (domestic and international), oppositions and rectifications, infringement and passing-off actions, customs recordal and border enforcement, brand-protection programmes, and contentious work; Media & Entertainment — content licensing, talent and production agreements, personality and publicity-rights disputes; Technology and Artificial Intelligence – software and SaaS contracting, open-source and IP-allocation issues, AI training-data and model-licensing questions, and platform-liability and intermediary issues; Data Protection — compliance under the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023, cross-border data-transfer assessments, and grievance-redressal and breach-response work; and Corporate Commercial Law – IP-led licensing and technology-transfer transactions, IP due diligence, franchising and manufacturing agreements.
Through its partnership with Christine Chiramel, the Firm forays into Intellectual Property, Media & Entertainment and Technology Law.
Christine Chiramel, Partner and Head of Intellectual Property, Chiramel & Co., commented:
“Intellectual property is a strategic asset on the balance sheet, and the conversation around it has changed fundamentally. AI has unsettled long-settled questions on authorship, training-data lawfulness, and the boundary between inspiration and infringement. The DPDP Act, 2023 has placed personal data on a footing that intersects directly with rights in databases, content and brand. Alongside these shifts, IP awareness among businesses, from listed corporates to early-stage founders, is on a clear rise: clients are protecting earlier, enforcing more deliberately, and treating their portfolios as part of enterprise value. Chiramel & Co. offers a forty-year institutional foundation, deep dispute-resolution experience and a full-service platform, ideal for expansion into an evolving IP vertical.”
Mr. Jos Chiramel, Founder, Chiramel & Co., added:
“We are delighted to welcome Christine. Her arrival allows the Firm to formally launch its Intellectual Property practice and to extend its full-service offering into the fields of Brand and creative protection, Media & Entertainment, Technology, AI and Data Protection related legal functions. The depth of her seventeen years in IP, brings the Firm exactly the leadership these new practice areas require.”
