National Law University and Judicial Academy, Assam is a national law university located in Guwahati, India. It was established in 2009 through an Act passed by the State Legislature of Assam as a public university dedicated to the field of legal education.
About the Journal
The Journal for Disability Studies and Health Laws (the “Journal”) is a peer-reviewed journal published under the aegis of the CDSHL, National Law University and Judicial Academy, Assam. The Journal was established with the objective of becoming a formidable instrument in pushing the ante of contemporary and socially relevant inter-disciplinary and multi-disciplinary research and scholarship in the areas of disability rights, health laws, healthcare jurisprudence, etcetera.
The Journal accepts submissions from students, practising attorneys, academicians, jurists, activists, research scholars, professionals in non-legal fields, and members of the Bar as well as the Bench.
About the Opportunity
The Centre for Disability Studies and Health Laws (the “CDSHL”) is inviting submissions by way of a Call for Papers.
Prospective Themes
The submissions should revolve around contemporary occurrences and any relevant issue(s) in relation to disability rights, health laws or its interdisciplinary aspects, including technology, philosophy/ ethics, sociology, equity, business studies and design. They must establish their relevance to the broad themes that the Journal undertakes.
The following list is non-exhaustive:
- Disability Rights
- Healthcare Access
- Mental Health
- Legal Standards for Mental Healthcare and Services
- Interdisciplinary Aspects of Disability, including Employment, Education, Social Security Benefits, Basic Amenities like Housing, Social Media, Sports, Socio-Politico-Economic Rights, etcetera.
- Employment Rights and Protections for Workers with Disabilities
- Accessibility and Inclusive Education Practices
- Assistive Technology, Disability Rehabilitation and their Legal Implications
- Disability and Public Policy
- Ethical and Legal Issues in Disability Research
- Non-Legal Approaches and Instruments towards Social Inclusion
Submission Categories
- Research Article: 6,000 to 8,000 words
- Research Note: 3,000 to 5,000 words (a condensed write-up of any specific and recent development)
- Commentary: Less than 3,000 words (critically analyse Indian or international judicial pronouncements, pieces of legislation or reports)
- Book Review: Less than 2,000 words
- These word limits are exclusive of footnotes. In exceptional cases, manuscripts exceeding the word limit may be considered at the discretion of the CDSHL.
Submission Guidelines
- The Submission must be written in British English.
- The Submission must use the 4th Edition of the Oxford University Standard for the Citation of Legal Authorities (OSCOLA) for footnotes and bibliographies. Do not use endnotes, and do not use speaking footnotes. Guidelines are here.
- All Submissions shall be original. Any plagiarism beyond 15% would lead to immediate rejection of the Submission. The CDSHL bars author(s) from using generative AI tools and AI-assisted tools in the writing process that fall outside the case of improving readability and language.
- The author(s) must inform the CDSHL if the Submission has also been submitted to another journal or otherwise. The CDSHL must be notified immediately if an offer for publication from another journal (or otherwise) is accepted by the author(s).
- If the author wishes to submit the Submission for any subsequent publication after it has been published with the Journal, the author needs to seek the explicit permission of the CDSHL.

“Authors will be solely responsible for their views and violations of the law, if any.” The CDSHL shall not be responsible for the views/opinions of the author(s) in the Journal which does not subscribe to the views/opinions expressed by the authors. They shall be considered the personal opinion/s of the authors concerned.
There is no publication fee, open-access fee or any other payment charged by the CDSHL for publication in the Journal.
