About NLUO

National Law University Odisha is a public law school and a National law University in India located at Cuttack, Odisha. It was established in 2008 under the National Law University Odisha Act, commencing its first batch from July 2009. The institute offers undergraduate, BBA/LL.B., and post-graduate courses in law. 

About Legal Service Committee

The Legal Services Committee (“LSC”) of National Law University Odisha (“NLUO”), since its very inception, has been working with the sole aim of bridging the gap between what the law promises to offer and the actual realities of the law. The concept of community outreach has been of paramount importance in the committee which it satisfactorily has been achieving through the integration of the students into the community, by organizing legal literacy camps, social mobilization camps, conducting socio-legal surveys relating to wide- ranging contemporary issues like domestic violence, consumer rights, dowry prohibition, landrights, under trial prisoners and many allied areas. The Committee is envisioned to undertake social action work and expand pro bono legal services. The committee is more focused on reaching the ground level and doing the actual work as a legal professional.

The LSC of NLUO, a student-run committee of the University has consistently been amainstay for those who require legal assistance. In pursuance of this, we are pleased to pioneer a blog as a platform to cultivate conversation on related issues. The Committee believes that individuals equipped with pristine knowledge of the law are not to remain in ivory towers but to cater to social realities and needs.

The Blog accepts submissions on a rolling basis. The submissions must be unpublished and should be the original work of the author(s). Co-authorship of up to two authors is permitted.

Theme: Understanding the Interplay of War Conflict and Legal Aid: Perspectives, Challenges, and Solutions. Subthemes-

• Legal Challenges Faced by War Refugees
• Legal Aid initiatives for refugees fleeing war zones.
• Analyzing the legal obstacles faced by displaced populations.
• Role of NGOs in Providing Legal Aid during Conflicts
• Challenges faced by NGOs in delivering legal aid during the war.
• Extraditions and the role of the right to counsel
• Importance of legal representation in ensuring fair extradition proceedings.
• Exploration of the challenges faced by defense attorneys in cross-border cases.

Submission Guidelines

• The submission must be between 1000-1500 words. Longer posts may be accepted and published in parts subject to the discretion of the editors. The word limit is exclusive of the endnotes (if any).
• The References must be in the form of hyperlinks, linked to keywords and phrases in the body of the submission. For Indian case law, the authors may provide links to the case, if available, at https://indiankanoon.org/, or the website of the relevant court.
• Factual assertions must be supported with appropriate links to sources. The authors may mention particular sections of the statute using https://www.indiacode.nic.in/. The citation format used for the endnotes must be uniform, preferably the latest
  edition of the Bluebook.
• The submission must be in .doc/.docx format. using Times New Roman font, size 12, line spacing 1.5, and Justified. For the endnotes, the font size changes to 10 with a line spacing of 1, while the font remains constant.
• Authors must acknowledge and give due reference to any source. Plagiarism is strictly prohibited, and articles found to be plagiarized will not be considered for publication.
• Analytical posts are preferred over descriptive ones. Posts will be considered for publication based on various factors, including but not limited to relevance, quality, structure, logic, writing style, and originality.
• The body of the email must contain a short bio of the author(s) and the name of the institution that they are affiliated with. Submissions are welcomed from students, academicians, and practitioners alike. The email must include a paragraph or two
  succinctly summarising the manuscript submitted.

Submission Procedure

Please mail all your submissions to [email protected] with the subject Blog Submission: “Title”, only in a Microsoft Office Word-compatible format (.doc or .docx). PDFs will not be accepted. There must be no hint, whatsoever, of the author’s identity in the Word document submitted.
