Attorney David Christensen’s Career in Michigan Personal Injury and Trial Practice

A long legal career is shaped by more than the number of years spent in practice.
For Michigan trial attorney David Christensen, that career has included personal injury litigation, courtroom advocacy, professional leadership, and the decision to build a law firm around direct client communication. His path took him from corporate law to personal injury practice and eventually to establishing his own firm. Along the way, his work has remained focused on representing people facing serious accidents and injuries. His experience offers a closer look at the values, trial work, and client-focused approach that have shaped his professional journey.

From California to Michigan Law
Christensen began his education with a bachelor’s degree in international relations from San Francisco State University. He later moved to Michigan, where he earned both a master’s degree and his law degree from the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor.
His early legal work focused on corporate matters, giving him experience in a different area of law. Over time, his interests shifted toward personal injury.
That experience helped shape his approach to legal representation. Christensen has discussed communication challenges that can occur in high-volume legal practices. His response was to build a firm where clients could receive more direct attention while dealing with the effects of serious accidents.
Building a Firm Around Client Service
Christensen founded Christensen Law in 2014, bringing his experience into a firm built around a client-focused approach. The firm’s philosophy is expressed through three words: Listen. Protect. Win.

Listening reflects the importance placed on understanding a client’s concerns and the circumstances surrounding an injury. Protecting speaks to helping clients manage the legal demands that can follow a serious accident. Winning represents the firm’s focus on pursuing strong results through legal advocacy and trial work.
The firm’s history also extends beyond Christensen’s 2014 founding of the practice. Christensen Law states that it has stood up for injured Michiganders since 1991. Keeping these dates separate provides a clearer picture of both the firm’s background and Christensen’s role in its development.
A Career Focused on Trial Practice
Christensen’s legal work includes personal injury, auto accidents, traumatic brain injuries, and other serious injury matters. His career has also received recognition from several legal organizations.
He has received an AV Preeminent rating from Martindale Hubbell and has been recognized by Best Lawyers. He was named Best Lawyers’ Lawyer of the Year for Detroit Personal Injury Litigation in 2019 and again in 2025.
Other professional recognition includes being named a Leader in the Law by Michigan Lawyers Weekly, recognition among Michigan’s top lawyers, and induction into the Michigan Lawyers Weekly Hall of Fame in 2021. He is also a member of the American Board of Trial Advocates, an organization focused on preserving the right to civil jury trials and an independent judiciary.
These distinctions form part of a career centered on courtroom advocacy and personal injury litigation.
Contributing Beyond the Courtroom
Christensen’s work has also included involvement in the wider legal profession. He has served as chairman of the State Bar of Michigan’s Negligence Law Section and as an officer on the Executive Board of the Michigan Association for Justice. He also chaired the association’s no-fault committee for many years.
His professional activities have included speaking at state and national conferences about negligence and auto accident law. He has also testified before the Michigan legislature on proposed changes affecting injured motorists.

Beyond his legal work, Christensen has been involved with organizations in Washtenaw County and participated with the University of Michigan Injury Prevention Center, which focuses on injury research, education, and public outreach.
A Practice Shaped by Experience
Christensen’s career reflects a move from corporate legal work into personal injury representation and trial advocacy. His decision to establish Christensen Law in 2014 created a practice built around the type of direct client communication he had come to value.
The firm’s history reaches back further, with Christensen Law identifying 1991 as the beginning of its work for injured Michiganders. Christensen’s own professional path and the firm’s longer history therefore represent two connected but distinct timelines.
Today, Christensen continues to practice personal injury law in Michigan, with work that includes serious auto accidents, traumatic brain injuries, catastrophic injuries, and other complex matters. Outside the courtroom, he is a marathon runner and backcountry skier who enjoys spending time with his family.
His professional journey shows how experience across different areas of law can eventually lead to a focused personal injury and trial practice, while the history of Christensen Law provides a broader context for the firm’s work with injured people in Michigan.
