About Altus Disputatio
Altus Disputatio is a thrilling debate competition featuring the Devil’s Cross format, a unique style of debating developed exclusively for NUALS by NUALS. The invigorating discourse features a series of twists and turns that require the participants to be on their toes and on the lookout for trouble at all times.
Eligibility
Altus Disputatio welcomes students enrolled in undergraduate programs in recognized universities globally. A participating institution may only send one team. Cross-institutional teams are not permitted.
Theme
Each round begins with the opposition and proposition teams interpreting the given phrase and putting it forward onto the playing field, where it will be justified by the respective teams; and one of the interpretations will be supported by the inquisitor. After closely following the validity of reasoning on both sides, the judges determine which interpretation will form the central theme for the ensuing debate.

- Winning team – ₹50,000
- Runner-up Team – ₹30,000
- Best Speaker – ₹20,000
- Best Inquisitor – ₹20,000

- Tournament Dates: 23rd, 24th and 25th February, 2024
