The Bar Council of India (BCI) is expected to release the official notification for the 20th All India Bar Examination (AIBE) this week. Last year, the notification came out on September 23, and the exam was held in December.

The AIBE is a qualifying test that every law graduate must clear in order to practice law in India. As per reports, this year’s exam will also be held in December, most likely in the second or third week.

The upcoming notification will provide complete details about eligibility criteria, syllabus, exam guidelines, and the registration schedule. Candidates can download the PDF from the official website — allindiabarexamination.com — or from the Bar Council of India’s portal – barcouncilofindia.org.

Eligibility

  • Candidates must hold an LLB degree from a recognised law college/university.
  • They must also be enrolled with a State Bar Council.
  • Final-year law students are not allowed to apply.

Documents Required for Registration

Applicants will need to upload:

  • Enrolment certificate from State Bar Council
  • LLB mark sheets or degree certificate
  • Valid photo ID
  • Recent passport-size photographs
  • Digital signature

Steps to Apply for AIBE 20

  1. Visit the official site: allindiabarexamination.com
  2. Register by creating an account with basic details.
  3. Fill in personal, contact, and educational details.
  4. Pay the application fees.
  5. Submit the form online.

Exam Pattern and Passing Marks

The exam will be of 100 marks and will include questions from subjects like Constitutional Law, Indian Penal Code, Family Law, Evidence Act, Cyber Law, Intellectual Property, Taxation Law, Contract Law, Property Laws, Negotiable Instruments Act, Land Acquisition Act, Administrative Law, and Specific Relief.

Passing marks are fixed at 45% for General and OBC candidates, while 40% is required for SC, ST, and PwD candidates.
