The 4th Edition of the Prof. V. S. Mallar Memorial Legal Aid Competition (2025–26) is jointly organized by JSS Law College (Autonomous), Mysuru, and the Centre for Environmental Law, Education, Research and Advocacy (CEERA), National Law School of India University, Bengaluru, in collaboration with the Department of Justice, Ministry of Law and Justice, Government of India.

This initiative upholds the vision of Prof. V. S. Mallar, a pioneer in legal education and community service, by promoting awareness, advocacy, and field engagement in legal aid and access to justice.

About the Opportunity

JSS Law College is organising 4th Edition of the Prof. V. S. Mallar Memorial Legal Aid Competition (2025–26).

The event is jointly organized by JSS Law College (Autonomous), Mysuru, and the Centre for Environmental Law, Education, Research and Advocacy (CEERA), National Law School of India University, Bengaluru, in collaboration with the Department of Justice, Ministry of Law and Justice, Government of India.

The competition serves as a national-level platform, one- of -its- kind legal aid competition, that blends law, creativity, and social responsibility. It encourages participants to engage with real-world issues affecting women’s safety and empowerment through legal aid and innovative outreach activities.

By combining academic knowledge with grassroots interaction, the competition seeks to build empathy, leadership, and legal literacy among students.

Theme

“Freedom from Violence: Legal Provisions for Safety and Security of Women.”

The theme emphasizes the role of law and community initiatives in ensuring freedom from gender-based violence and advancing women’s rights.

Eligibility

  • Open to students from Law, Management, and Commerce institutions across India.
  • Legal Aid Clinics, NSS Units, and NCC Units may also participate.
  • Teams may include students and faculty mentors from the same institution.
  • Six Components of the Competition

Participants will engage in six dynamic and interdisciplinary components designed to foster practical skills and creative legal engagement:

  • Speed Mentoring for Women PRI Members
  • Jan Sunwaii (Public Hearing) for Women PRI Members
  • Short Videos / Reel Making
  • Legal Podcast & FAQ Drafting
  • Poster / Story Book Creation
  • Final Report Compilation

Registration Fee

₹5,000 per team (inclusive of GST)

Prizes

Overall Winners: ₹25,000

Runners-up: ₹15,000

Category-wise Awards

  • Speed Mentoring Winner: ₹5,000
  • Jan Sunwaii Winner: ₹5,000
  • Reel Making Winner: ₹5,000
  • Legal Podcast + FAQs Winner: ₹5,000
  • Poster / Story Book Winner: ₹5,000
  • Best Faculty Legal Aid Coordinator: ₹5,000
  • Best Student Legal Aid Coordinator: ₹5,000

All participants will receive certificates of participation and recognition for excellence in specific components.
