About the Competition

The 3rd Surana & Surana Trial Advocacy Moot Court Competition (North & South Rounds) 2026–27, organised by the School of Excellence in Law, The Tamil Nadu Dr Ambedkar Law University, Chennai, in collaboration with Surana & Surana International Attorneys, is designed to promote excellence in criminal trial advocacy.

The competition provides participants with a realistic courtroom experience under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023 (BNS), Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, 2023 (BNSS), and Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam, 2023 (BSA). Participants will engage in every stage of a criminal trial, including the examination and cross-examination of witnesses, the presentation of evidence, and oral advocacy, enabling them to develop practical litigation and courtroom skills.

The SOUTH ROUNDS of the competition will be hosted by the School of Excellence in Law, TNDALU, Chennai, from 25th to 27th September 2026, following a virtual procedural test if registration exceeds 18 Teams.

Eligibility

The competition is open to students pursuing either the 3-year LL.B. or 5-year integrated LL.B. programme from institutions recognised by the Bar Council of India. Each participating institution may register teams in accordance with the competition rules. Only ONE TEAM per institution is permitted to participate.

• Procedural Test (Virtual Mode): 26th August 2026 (if registrations exceed 18 teams)
• Orientation, Draw of Lots & Memorial Exchange: 25th September 2026
• Preliminary Rounds I & II and Quarter Finals: 26th September 2026
• Semi-Finals, Finals & Valedictory Ceremony: 27th September 2026

Two-Stage Registration Fee

Stage I: All teams wishing to participate in the Competition shall be required to pay a base registration fee of ₹2,006 (₹1,700 + 18% GST of ₹306) on or before 25th August 2026.

Stage II: The eighteen (18) teams qualifying for the Oral Rounds of the South Rounds shall be required to pay an additional registration fee of ₹2,006 (₹1,700 + 18% GST of ₹306) on or before 6th September 2026.

This fee excludes accommodation charges. Participants are advised to refer to the Rules and Regulations for details regarding accommodation and other applicable charges.

• Second Best Team of the Year Award – A Plaque and a cash prize of Rs. 15,000/-
• Trial Advocate of the Year Award – A Plaque and cash prize of Rs. 10,000/-
• Second Best Trial Advocate – A Plaque and cash prize of Rs. 5,000/-
• Best Memorial Award – A Plaque and cash prize of Rs. 10,000/-
• Second Best Memorial Award – A Plaque and cash prize of Rs. 5,000/-
