About the Faculty of Law, AMU

Established in 1883 at M.A.O. College, the Faculty of Law, Aligarh Muslim University, is one of the oldest law schools in India. It became a full-fledged Faculty in 1960 under its first Dean, Prof. (Dr.) Hafeezul Rahman. For over a century, the Faculty has played a significant role in nation-building and legal academia.

It has produced eminent jurists and public figures, including former Judges of the Supreme Court of India — Justice Baharul Islam, Justice Murtaza Fazal Ali, and Justice R.P. Sethi — along with distinguished academicians such as Padma Bhushan Prof. N.R. Madhava Menon, Prof. Tahir Mahmood, and Prof. Faizan Mustafa.

Recognized for its academic excellence, the Faculty was ranked 2nd among Indian law institutions in 2017 and secured 9th position in NIRF 2025. With its rich legacy and strong academic foundation, the Faculty provides a dynamic platform for national-level moot court competitions.

About the Competition

The Faculty of Law, Aligarh Muslim University, Aligarh is organizing the 3rd Sir Syed National Moot Court Competition- 2026 in a hybrid mode. The preliminary rounds will be conducted in Online mode from 14th-15th March and the Advanced offline rounds will be conducted from 28th-29th March.

Registration Details

Online registrations will remain open from 17th February 2026 to 7th March 2026. Interested teams are required to complete the registration through the prescribed Google Form within this period. Kindly note that only one team per institution is permitted to participate. Participants will receive an acknowledgement on successful submission of registration forms.

  • Start of Online Registration: 17th February
  • Last Date for Registration & Fee payment: 7th March
  • Last date of Memorial Submission: 9th March
  • Draw of Lots for Preliminary Rounds: 12th March
  • Date of Memorial Exchange: 12th March
  • Preliminary Round 1: 14th March
  • Preliminary Round 2: 15th March
  • Declaration of Results of Preliminary Round followed by Draw of Lots & Exchange of
  • Memorials: 16th March
  • Date of Arrival of Teams: 27th March
  • Quarter-final and Semi-final Rounds: 28th March
  • Final Round & Valedictory Ceremony: 29th March

Prizes

  • Winning team: ₹21,000/- + Trophy + Certificate of Merit + three (3) one-year complimentary subscriptions to SCC Online Web Edition, each worth Rs. 32,000 amounting to Rs. 96,000 in total
  • Runner-Up team: ₹11,000/- + Trophy + Certificate of Merit
  • Best Memorial: ₹5,000/- + Trophy + Certificate of Merit
  • Best Speaker: ₹5,000/- + Trophy + Certificate of Merit
  • Best Researcher: ₹5,000/- + Trophy + Certificate of Merit.
