Mar Gregorios College of Law was established in 2012 as a visionary initiative of His Beatitude Moran Mor Baselios Cardinal Cleemis, the Head and Father of the Malankara Catholic Major Archiepiscopal Church and President of the Malankara Catholic Educational Society of the Major Archdiocese of Trivandrum. Conceived as a Centre of Excellence in Legal Education and Research, the institution is dedicated to nurturing future legal professionals equipped to meet the challenges of the legal profession with integrity, competence, and a strong commitment to social and ethical values. The College aspires to foster a vibrant and socially responsible community of lawyers, and to contribute meaningfully to the development of jurisprudence and legal scholarship.

About The CBP

A Capacity Building Programme on Geographical Indications (GI) is essential to enhance awareness, promote community participation, and maximize the socio-economic potential of region-specific products In alignment with national initiatives like One District One Product (ODOP) and Aatmanirbhar Bharat, the Government of India has emphasized the importance of preserving indigenous skills and encouraging innovation and entrepreneurship. GI-tagged products serve as powerful instruments for rural development, community empowerment, and regional economic growth. Through focused capacity-building efforts, stakeholders such as artisans, farmers, cooperatives, and local entrepreneurs can be equipped with the necessary legal, marketing, and policy knowledge to leverage GI protection effectively

Program Objectives

 To explore the evolving landscape of Geographical Indications (GI) and its intersection with intellectual property rights, focusing on its role in promoting traditional knowledge, preserving cultural heritage, and accelerating progress towards the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

 To examine the practical implications and ground level impact of GI implementation, including its influence on local communities, producers, and the broader development ecosystem through experiential learning and case-based interactions.

To identify key challenges and stakeholder concerns within the GI framework and develop actionable strategies to effectively leverage GI for sustainable economic growth and inclusive development.
