About The Organisation

The Chair on Consumer Research and Policy (CCRP) was established at National University of Study and Research in Law (NUSRL), Ranchi in October 2024 by the Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Government of India, New Delhi, to promote research, teaching and training in Consumer Law. The Chair acts as a “Think Tank” for research and policy related issue on consumer affairs as a distinct subject of study both at Under Graduate and Post Graduate levels.

 The Chair is dedicated to advancing research, policy discourse, and academic engagement in the field of consumer protection and related regulatory frameworks. CCRP actively promotes awareness of consumer rights and fosters legal scholarship through conferences, workshops, and moot court competitions.

About The Opportunity

The 2nd National Moot Court Competition on Consumer Protection Laws, 2026 provides a National platform for law students to engage with contemporary issues under Consumer Law. The competition aims to enhance advocacy, research, and drafting skills while encouraging critical analysis of the Consumer Protection Act, 2019, and allied laws. The moot problem reflects real-world challenges faced by consumers and regulatory bodies in modern markets.

Theme

Consumer Protection Laws, with a focus on emerging issues such as:

  • Unfair trade practices
  • Misleading advertisements
  • Product liability
  • Consumer rights in digital and e-commerce markets

Eligibility

  • Students pursuing 3-year or 5-year LL.B. programmes from any recognized law university/college.
  • Each participating institution may send one team only.
  • A team shall consist of two speakers and one researcher.

Registration Fee

  • ₹1,000 per team (for Memorial Round)

Prizes

  • Prize Pool: ₹80k
  • Winning Team – ₹25,000 + Trophy + Certificates
  • Runners-Up Team – ₹20,000 + Trophy + Certificates
  • Best Speaker (Male) of the Competition: ₹10,000 + Trophy + Certificates
  • Best Speaker (Female) of the Competition:  – ₹10,000 + Trophy + Certificates
  • Best Memorial (Complainant) – ₹5,000 + Trophy + Certificates
  •  Best Memorial (Opposite Party) – ₹5,000 + Trophy + Certificates
  • Best Researcher – ₹5,000 + Trophy + Certificates

The Winning Team will be felicitated by the Hon’ble Minister of Consumer Affairs, Food & Public Distribution, Government of India, on the occasion of World Consumer Rights Day (15 March 2026)  offering rare national-level recognition and institutional exposure.

  • Release of Moot Proposition: 1st January, 2026
  • Last Date for Registration: 31st January, 2026
  • Competition Dates: 27th February – 1st March, 2026
