About Xavier Society of Law and Justice (XSLAJ)

Established in 2017, St. Xavier’s University, Kolkata, is a private university run by the Jesuits. SXUK has a sprawling campus expanding to 16.64 acres of land and houses five departments, namely Xavier Law School, Xavier Business School, Faculty of Commerce and Management, Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences and Faculty of Science. Established in 2019, Xavier Law School seeks to carry on the legacy of Jesuit education in the fields of legal education and research. Currently, it offers two undergraduate courses – B.A.LLB (Hons.) and B.Com.LLB. (Hons.), 2-year LLM courses in Business Law and Criminal Law and a PhD course.

About 2nd Ignatius Trial & Advocacy Competition – IGNITAC’25

The Xavier Society of Law and Justice (XSLAJ), a student-run society of Xavier Law School, St. Xavier’s University, Kolkata is organizing the 2nd Ignatius Trial & Advocacy Competition – IGNITAC’25 on the 9th, 10th and 11th of October, 2025. IGNITAC’25.

IGNITAC’25 highlights the fact that the importance of practical learning for smoother experiences and holistic development of professional skill sets is central to the aims of any law school, and the foundation of the practice of law lies in the courtroom. The aim of the Trial & Advocacy competition is to let a student of law experience a Trial, acquaint them with the paramount rules of any successful trial, and help them be a master at the skills of pursuance, preparedness and prudence.

Registration

For students belonging to any Law School/ College/University/Institution within India, any student pursuing any three-year or five-year integrated courses of the LL.B. degree from any Law School/College/University/Institution recognised by the Bar Council of India is eligible to participate (Students pursuing the LL.M. degree are also eligible to participate).

Students from any Year/Semester can form/join a Team and register for participation. Cross-Semester Participation is allowed, i.e., a Team may consist of students from different semesters/years, however, the college/university must be the same.

Composition of Teams

Each team shall mandatorily consist of 3 members. This number cannot be modified under any circumstances. There shall be 2 Speakers and 1 Researcher.

The roles will not be subject to any change after the confirmation of the team’s registration.

Mode and Duration

IGNITAC’25 is being organised in an offline mode at St. Xavier’s University, Kolkata on the 9th, 10th and 11th of October, 2025

Registration Fees

INR 4500 for students from universities/colleges etc. within India.

Last Date To Register

The last date for registering as a team is Wednesday, 3rd of October, 2025.

Awards

• The Best Team shall receive the IGNITAC CUP and Gold Medallion. They will also receive a cash prize of Rs. 1,00,000.
• The Runner-up Team shall receive a Trophy, Silver Medallion and a cash prize of Rs. 50,000.
• The Best Speaker shall receive a Trophy, a Gold Medallion and a cash prize of Rs. 30,000.
• The Best Memorial shall receive a Trophy and a cash prize of Rs. 30,000.
• The Best Researcher shall receive a Trophy, a Gold Medallion and a cash prize of Rs. 15,000.
• The Best Witness shall receive a Trophy, a Gold Medallion and a cash prize of Rs. 15,000.
• All the Winners will get Printed Merit Certificates.

Internship Opportunities

The winners shall also receive paid internship opportunities at MCO Legals.
