About the Organisation
Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar University (BBAU), Lucknow is a Central University established by an Act of Parliament (No. 58 of 1994) and came into existence on 10 January 1996. The University is accredited with an ‘A++’ Grade by NAAC and is committed to the ideals of social justice, equity, and inclusive education envisioned by Babasaheb Dr. B.R. Ambedkar.
The Department of Law, School of Legal Studies, BBAU, established in 2008–09, offers BBA LL.B. (Hons.), LL.M., and Ph.D. programmes and has been ranked 12th under the NIRF Ranking Framework. The Department actively promotes advocacy skills, research excellence, and experiential legal education through national-level academic initiatives, including moot court competitions.
About the Opportunity
The 2nd Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar National Moot Court Competition, 2026 is a national-level moot court competition organised by the Department of Law, BBAU, Lucknow. The competition aims to enhance participants’ skills in constitutional reasoning, criminal jurisprudence, legal research, written advocacy, and oral submissions.
The competition shall be conducted in hybrid mode, wherein:
- Preliminary and Quarter-Final Rounds will be held virtually
- Semi-Final and Final Rounds will be conducted offline at Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar University, Lucknow
Theme
The moot proposition is based on the intersection of newly enacted criminal laws and constitutional principles, with particular emphasis on:
- Due process and fair trial
- Rights of victims and accused
- Circumstantial and electronic evidence
- Fair investigation under Article 21
- Judicial interpretation of criminal law reforms
- Participants are expected to critically analyse whether contemporary criminal law reforms strengthen constitutional governance or undermine fundamental rights.
Eligibility
Students enrolled in:
- Three-year LL.B. programme, or
- Five-year integrated law programme
- Students enrolled in LL.M., Ph.D., or diploma programmes are not eligible
- Maximum four (4) teams per institution
- Each team must be duly authorised by the Head/Dean/Moot Court Committee of the institution
Team Composition:
- Minimum: 2 members
- Maximum: 3 members (2 Speakers + 1 Researcher)
Registration Fee
₹4,500/- per team (mandatory)
Optional Accommodation (for Semi-Finalists & Finalists): ₹3,000/- per team
