GNLU Legal Services Committee (LSC) is the legal-aid arm of Gujarat National Law University, established under Section 4(k) of the Legal Services Authorities Act, 1987. It works towards promoting legal awareness, access to justice and legal aid through pro-bono initiatives, legal aid clinics, research projects and community outreach programmes.

About the Event

The 1st GNLU LSC National Essay Competition on Legal Aid and Access to Justice, 2026 is being organised to encourage research, critical thinking and legal discourse on issues concerning legal aid and meaningful access to justice. The results will be announced on National Legal Services Day, 9 November 2026.

The competition is open to all undergraduate (UG) students across India.

  • Microsoft Word format: .doc/.docx
  • Times New Roman, 12-point
  • 1.5 line spacing
  • Justified alignment
  • 1-inch margins on all sides
  • Word Limit:1300-1500 Words
  • Hyperlinks are mandatory for citations and sources relied upon.
  • The submission must demonstrate clear argument, critical analysis and logical structure.

Selection Guidelines

Submissions should demonstrate clear argumentation, critical analysis, logical structure and engagement with relevant legal and contemporary developments. The manuscript must also comply with the originality, anonymity and plagiarism requirements.

Submission Guidelines

  • The essay must be original and unpublished and must not be under consideration elsewhere.
  • Co-authorship is permitted for a maximum of 2 authors.
  • Plagiarism similarity must not exceed 10%.
  • The manuscript must not contain the author’s name, institutional affiliation, contact details or other identifying information.
  • Copyright and third-party rights must be respected.

Registration and Submission Deadline

  • Last Date for Registration & Payment: 25 September 2026
  • Last Date for Submission: 25 September 2026
  • Declaration of Results: 9 November 2026 — National Legal Services Day.

  • Co-authored: ₹300/-
